Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1 – Travel to Loch Ness

Departing from Inverness, you’ll drive down the northern shore of Loch Ness. Along the way, stop to explore the mighty ruins of Urquhart Castle, overlooking the moody loch waters, once one of Scotland’s largest castles. Your destination tonight is the charming village of Fort Augustus, located at the southern tip of Loch Ness.

Overnight: 4 star | The Lovat | Fort Augustus.

Day 2 – Loch Ness and Glen Affric

Set out onto the water this morning with a scenic boat trip on Loch Ness. Keep an eye out for the infamous monster with the on-board sonar equipment or just enjoy the peace and beautiful views. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the local area at your own pace. Take a gentle stroll along the Caledonian Canal, watching yachts pass through its system of locks, or take a drive to wild Glen Affric, thought by many to be the most beautiful glen in Scotland.

Overnight: 4 star | The Lovat | Fort Augustus (B)

Day 3 – Over the Sea to Skye

Your route to the west coast is a feast for the eyes this morning, passing sweeping mountain glens and towering peaks. Our route notes will help you focus on some highlights. Pause at iconic Eilean Donan Castle, an elegant island castle amidst majestic scenery, or stretch your legs on a short walk on a grand estate in order to learn how local wildlife and traditional farm communities still flourish in rural Scotland. Cross the graceful arch of the Skye Bridge, head north to Portree and your hotel. On arrival, take a wander around the village or take a drive around the north of Skye to discover historic clan castles and outstanding mountain and coastal views.

Overnight: 4 star | Cuillin Hills Hotel | Isle of Skye (B)

Day 4 – Skye by Land and Sea

Start the day with a pleasant boat trip, which takes you out of Portree harbour to explore the intricate coastline of the Sound of Raasay. Look out for sea eagles, dolphins, seals and even whales, as well as the lively seabird communities – and of course the scenery too. Back on land, your private hiking guide will meet you in the early afternoon, and you have the rest of the day to explore on foot, perhaps taking in the Fairy Glen or a hike on the spectacular Quiraing. Keen hikers can choose to replace the morning boat trip and enjoy a full day’s hike with their guide, opening up many hiking options.

Overnight: 4 star | Cuillin Hills Hotel | Isle of Skye (B)

Day 5 – Guided Hike in the West Highlands

Leaving the Isle of Skye, drive up the west coast to the beautiful region of Torridon. On the way, you’ll meet your private guide again for a hike exploring the landscapes of Skye, Applecross or Torridon. Your guide will discuss options with you the previous day, and the choice is yours. You can enjoy an easy walk or a challenging hike to a summit. No matter where you choose to hike, you will enjoy a spectacular combination of mountain and sea views.

Overnight: 5 star | Torridon Hotel | Torridon (B)

Day 6 – Torridon

The final full day of your trip offers lots of choices. You might be tempted by the various activities offered at the hotel, such as archery, clays or sea kayaking. A drive through the mountain roads of this region will be tempting on a clear day. Or you might just sit back and enjoy your sumptuous surroundings at leisure … you’re on holiday after all!

Overnight: 5 star | Torridon Hotel | Torridon (B)

Day 7 – Depart

After a leisurely breakfast, depart the Torridon area for the 2 hour drive back to Inverness. (B)
