The journey begins in Highland Perthshire, where heather-covered hills, ancient woodlands and peaceful glens set the scene for some truly special walking. From here, we head into the Cairngorms National Park – a wild and rugged landscape of soaring peaks, deep pine forests and sparkling lochs. With each hike, you’ll discover breathtaking views and hidden trails, while soaking up the natural beauty and rich heritage of this iconic part of Scotland.

Day by Day

Day 1 - Wednesday 13th August - Into Highland Perthshire

Meeting in Edinburgh, we begin with a scenic drive north to Perth, where we’ll enjoy a short tour of a historic library and view rare books from its diverse collection. After lunch, we continue through the winding Sma’ Glen to reach Aberfeldy. Here, we stretch our legs with a walk along the ‘Birks of Aberfeldy,’ where Robert Burns found poetic inspiration. Stone steps guide us past waterfalls and through a steep-sided gorge, offering lovely views across the crags. Later, we transfer to a cosy Highland hotel to unwind for the evening.

Day 2 - Thursday 14th August - Hiking Glen Lyon

Glen Lyon is one of the most beautiful glens in Scotland, flanked by steep sided hills and filled with native woodland. Your guide will choose a suitable hike on the day – which could be a winding walk along the valley floor, or perhaps a hike to one of the easier summits.

Day 3 - Friday 15th August - The Fairy Hill of Caledonia

On the final day in Perthshire, the aim is to climb the iconic hill of Schiehallion – the Fairy Hill of Caledonia. An excellent trail snakes up the whaleback mountain to its lofty summit at 1,083 m/3,553 ft, rewarding with expansive views across the Highlands. Back at the hotel, we celebrate with a pint of Schiehallion ale or perhaps a local whisky.

Day 4 - Saturday 16th August - Journey into the Highlands

Begin your journey north on a scenic drive into the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, soaking in the changing landscapes of rolling hills and rugged moorland. Along the way, stop at a lovely café for a relaxed lunch before continuing into one of Scotland’s most beautiful and unspoiled areas. In the afternoon, enjoy a gentle guided hike through Glen Feshie, a breathtaking valley renowned for its wild beauty, ancient pines, and peaceful solitude. As evening falls, settle into a welcoming hotel, where you’ll stay for the next two nights, surrounded by the tranquillity of the Highlands.

Day 5 - Sunday 17th August - Hiking in The Cairngorms National Park

Today, enjoy a hike in the beautiful Cairngorms National Park. At over 4500 sq km it is the largest National Park in the UK and with miles of winding rivers, make it Scotland’s most prolific whisky-making region. With your guide, choose a hike that suits you – perhaps head out onto the alpine plateau of the Cairngorms Mountain range and bag a sought-after Munro. Or choose to explore the Caledonian pine forest which is the oldest forest in Scotland and the last of the woodland that once covered the whole of the UK. Roam heather-covered glens and alongside jewel-like lochs for the perfect immersion into the ancient landscape. This evening, enjoy a meal and a drink in a traditional Highland pub.

Day 6 - Monday 18th August - Back to the City

Heading south from the Cairngorms, enjoy a scenic drive through the Highlands, stopping in Dunkeld & The Hermitage for a short but magical forest walk among towering ancient trees and cascading waterfalls. Soak in the tranquillity of this hidden gem before continuing to Edinburgh, arriving mid-afternoon.
