Following that, join the host in her workshop and listen to a brief history of fleece preparation, hand spinning, the reasons and history behind their uniquely hand knitted designs. This offers a unique opportunity to understand about Croft sustainability on the Isle of Skye. You will have some time later today to head out for a hike with your guide if you wish, or perhaps visit the nearby Skye Museum of Island Life, a small local museum which opened in 1965 with the aim to preserve a township of thatched cottages, each one depicting, as closely as possible, the conditions prevailing on the island at the close of the nineteenth century.

Enjoy exploring among the megaliths of one of Scotland’s most magnificent and best-preserved Neolithic monuments before leaving the stones behind and heading to Stornoway. From here, catch the ferry back to the mainland, arriving into the coastal town of Ullapool. As today is a slightly longer travel day, stop en route to Torridon for a walk with your guide to stretch your legs and take in the dramatic scenery. I am now living the dream in my third career, having worked in marketing, then as a teacher, and now as an outdoor instructor, walking guide and leadership development facilitator. I am happiest when outdoors in the countryside, enjoying our beautiful landscapes, flora, and fauna.

I have been lucky to have had the pleasure of living in many beautiful areas of the British Isles – Southern England, North Yorkshire, Dorset, The Cotswolds, and Scotland. We have finally settled back in Dorset, in the South West, and I am surrounded by an incredible playground. I can’t wait to share our beautiful and diverse country and show you some of my favourite haunts!
