Day by Day

Day 1 - Sunday 25th May - Arrive and over to Skye

Meet your Wilderness Scotland guide this morning and transfer to the iconic Isle of Skye. After arriving, make your way to the shores of Loch Greshornish to visit a local croft. You’ll get the chance to meet their animals, as well as gain insight into the daily routines of crofting and the life of their sheep and how they produce ethical wool. Following that, join the host in her workshop and listen to a brief history of fleece preparation, hand spinning, the reasons and history behind their uniquely hand knitted designs. This offers a unique opportunity to understand about Croft sustainability on the Isle of Skye. A short transfer will take you to Portree, your harbour side home for the next 2 nights.

Day 2 - Monday 26th May - Clearance Villages

Lace-up your boots this morning and head out for a beautiful walk with your guide. Hike along the coast and past the ruins of two villages abandoned during the Highland Clearances. Learn more about this incredibly dark time in Scottish history as you explore the mossy walls of the old houses. As the soft breeze carries the smell of salt and sunshine across the heather, gradually ascend above the white-flecked waves, listening to the raucous call of seabirds and enjoying time spent in the fresh air.

Day 3 - Tuesday 27th May - Isle of Harris

Depart Skye this morning and travel by ferry to the Isle of Harris. Taking around 1.5 hours, enjoy the opportunity to stand out on deck and feel the fresh, salt-thick air on your face as you look out for dolphins and seabirds. After arriving on Harris, join your guide for a lovely walk on the spectacular beaches of Luskentyre and Seileboist before heading to your accommodation in time to freshen up before dinner.

Day 4 - Wednesday 28th May - Exploring North Harris

After a relaxed breakfast, enjoy an exciting day exploring the impressive, rugged beauty of North Harris. Ribbon your way through peaceful glens and stroll along swathes of powdery white sand that stretch out towards the horizon. Depending on the weather, we may head to the turquoise waters of Huisinis Beach or walk out to see the towering cliffs of Sron Uladal. Regardless of which route we choose, it’s bound to be a wonderful day. Later today, enjoy a Harris Tweed weaving demonstration and learn about the history and art of creating the iconic cloth.

Day 5 - Thursday 29th May - Callanish Stones and Return to the Mainland

Checking out of your Tarbert accommodation this morning, travel North to the Isle of Lewis and visit the historic Callanish Standing Stones. Dating back to 3000 BC and set high on a heathery moor with a backdrop of white-capped waves and shattered mountain peaks, this is a magical and captivating place. Enjoy exploring among the megaliths of one of Scotland’s most magnificent and best-preserved Neolithic monuments before leaving the stones behind and heading to Stornoway. From here, catch the ferry back to the mainland, arriving into the coastal town of Ullapool. As today is a slightly longer travel day, stop en route to Torridon for a walk with your guide to stretch your legs and take in the dramatic scenery. Check into your luxury hotel overlooking the shores of Loch Torridon.

Day 6 - Friday 30th May - A Wild Coastline

We’re back on shore for a picnic lunch, and then we follow up with an afternoon hike to the Fairy Lochs, which has excellent views of both the coastline and mountains. An option for this afternoon is to visit the award winning Inverewe Gardens, a botanical garden created from barren land in 1862 by Osgood Mackenzie on the 850-hectare estate bought for him by his mother. Return to Torridon Hotel for another relaxing evening.
