Travel along Ireland’s western coasts taking in some of our famous historic sites and highlights while at the same time exploring more off-the-beaten-path locations and stunning landscapes.  Along the way, you will get under the skin of Ireland, visiting sites associated with the country’s long and complex history from prehistoric times to the recent past.  Meeting local people and learning about life on Europe’s western edge, you’ll uncover the natural history of the varied landscape from verdant green pastures to wild mountain scenery.

Day by Day

Day 1 - Saturday 13th April - Arrival to Ireland

Welcome to Ireland! Pick up your rental car at Shannon Airport and it’s time to drive 30 minutes to Limerick city. Built upon the River Shannon and lined with Georgian townhouses, this will be your base for the next two nights. After checking into your boutique hotel, the rest of the day is yours to explore – and we have plenty of suggestions!

Day 2 - Sunday 14th April - Exploring Limerick

Start your day by visiting King John’s Castle, a mediaeval fortress situated on the banks of the River Shannon. Explore the castle’s interactive exhibits and enjoy panoramic views of the city from its towers. Afterward, head to the Hunt Museum, located in the elegant 18th century Custom House. This museum houses an impressive collection of art and antiquities, including works by Picasso, Gauguin, and Renoir.

This evening, immerse yourself in Limerick’s vibrant music scene by attending a live traditional music session at one of the city’s many pubs.

Day 3 - Monday 15th April - Limerick to Killarney

This morning, it’s time to make your way south, to the Kingdom of Kerry! En-route we recommend stopping in the picturesque village of Adare, often referred to as “Ireland’s prettiest village.” With its traditional thatched roofed cottages, quaint tea rooms and inviting craft shops, it is easy to see why!  Your final destination this evening is the town of Killarney, serving as the gateway to the wildly scenic Ring of Kerry.

Day 4 - Tuesday 16th April - Exploring Killarney National Park

After a leisurely breakfast, head into Killarney National Park – the jewel in the county’s crown. Today the park encompasses 26,000 acres of mountains, woodlands, lakes, waterfalls and history. Enjoy Kerry’s most breathtaking scenery on your doorstep. Visit the mediaeval tower house at Ross Castle, tour Muckross House, visit Torc Waterfall, board a lake boat and sail the tranquil waters and take in the stunning scenes from Ladies View. A day spent in Killarney National Park will always be memorable.

Day 5 - Wednesday 17th April - Driving the Ring of Kerry

Driving around the Ring of Kerry is a breathtaking experience that takes you on a scenic journey through some of Ireland’s most stunning landscapes. Today you will experience panoramic views of coastal cliffs, rugged mountains, sparkling lakes, and charming villages – oh, and some guaranteed photo opportunities! At each turn, there is a new view to marvel upon. Afterwards, spend some time in the charming village of Kenmare – often referred to as “the jewel in the Kerry”. The village retains a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and its friendly locals add to its unique character. Explore the narrow lanes, browse through boutique stores, and discover local crafts and artisan products before returning to your accommodation.

Day 6 - Thursday 18th April - Seaweed Foraging Experience

On the southern shores of the Iveragh peninsula you will meet one of our favourite characters. A fisherman, foraging expert, storyteller and a true Irish gent, John will take you on a wander along the shoreline learning about life on Ireland’s west coast all the while regaling you with tales of characters from the region. Together, learn how seaweed earned its reputation as a super-food. Enjoy a few nibbles yourself, including the flavoursome variety, Duilleasc, which sustained the monks on Skellig Island, or Nori, the famous Sushi roll wrapping.

Day 7 - Friday 19th April - Killarney to Ashford

This morning, you are driving 3.5 hours to check into the 800 – year old historic Ashford Castle, your home for the next three nights. Nestled between the shores of Lough Corrib and Lough Mask, Cong is renowned for its natural beauty, rich history and its connection to pop culture. The surrounding area boasts a fascinating history that stretches back centuries, and there’s no better base to explore than Ashford Castle.

Day 8 - Saturday 20th April - The Village of Cong & The Quiet Man Bar

This morning, time to venture out to the village of Cong, renowned for its association with the iconic oscar winning film “The Quiet Man”. Many of the film’s iconic scenes were shot in and around Cong. For fans of the movie, a visit to the Quiet Man Cottage Museum is a must. Experience a true Irish “Céad míle fáilte” here and afterwards you can visit Cong Abbey, founded in the 12th century.

Day 9 - Sunday 21st April - On Site at Ashford Castle

The 800-year-old Ashford Castle on the border of Galway and Mayo was once owned by the Guineess family. Today, Ashford is one of Ireland’s premier hotels offering an unforgettable experience to all its visitors.

Day 10 - Monday 22nd April - Ashford to Dromoland

This morning, make the 1.5 hour drive down to Clare – it’s time to check in to one of Ireland’s finest castle hotels, the 5* Dromoland Castle! The opulent surroundings of Ireland’s premier castle hotel are yours to indulge in today. There are many activities to choose from on site should you wish to try your hand including archery, falconry, horse riding, pony and trap rides and a luxury spa and leisure centre. We are happy to include any onsite activities or spa treatments if you wish, or simply rest, relax and soak up the atmosphere.

Day 11 - Tuesday 23rd April - Private Tour of The Burren Perfumery

The Burren region is world-wide unique, known for its vast array of wildflowers, including over 40 species of orchid, that blanket the rocky limestone landscape from spring through summer. In the heart of the National Park is The Burren Perfumery, a boutique perfumer influenced by the natural beauty of the landscape. Here you will enjoy a private hands-on experience, meet the producers and see how the products are made.

Day 12 - Wednesday 24th April - Depart

It’s time to make your way back to Shannon Airport this morning. Drop your rental car back before catching your flight home, we hope your time in Ireland has been memorable.
