Day 2 - Tuesday 15th July - Exploring Historic Edinburgh

Today immerse yourselves in the winding cobbled streets of historic Old Town Edinburgh as you enjoy a private walking tour with an expert local guide. Discover the highlights of this unique capital as you wander up the ‘Royal Mile’ to the mighty ancient fortress which is Edinburgh Castle itself. Walk the ramparts atop castle rock and hear the tales of the One O’Clock gun and the stories of locals of times past.

Continue your explorations after lunch, and the locations are flexible depending on your personal interests. You could stay in the Old Town and maybe visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, or the Royal Yacht Britannia. Or discover the contrast of the Georgian elegance of the ‘New Town’ and the charming Village of Dean, a quaint hamlet once home to 11 mills running off of the local river. The river, the Water of Leith, is one of Edinburgh’s hidden natural assets with a diversity of flora and fauna to admire as you stroll along the walkway at the river’s edge. The choice is yours and your experienced guide will tailor the day to your interests.

Overnight: Edinburgh | Gleneagles Townhouse
Room Type: 2 x House Room (next to one another but not interconnecting)

Day 3 - Wednesday 16th July - Bike Ride To Rosslyn Chapel, Underground Secrets & Whisky Experience

This morning a private transfer will take you to meet your private bike guide, where you will get matched up with E-bikes & head off on a fun history exploration. An enjoyable ride takes you out to the enigma that is Rosslyn Chapel, made famous by The Da Vinci Code. Dan Brown called this chapel “the most mysterious and magical chapel on earth” and there are certainly lots of unanswered questions about this unique building. Originally founded in 1446, the chapel features intricate carvings and decorations which have prompted many different theories connected with the Knights Templar and the Freemasons amongst others.

Once back at your start point a private transfer will take you back into the city centre where you have free time to pick up some souvenirs or just enjoy soaking in the atmosphere. Then head to a really unique site, just off the Royal Mile, for a short private tour. This is a narrow street which fell into disrepair and ended up getting completely buried and closed off to the world back in the 1700s. It was rediscovered in 2003 and opened up to the public. As you can imagine it is a fascinating and eerie experience with many tales associated with the hidden rooms.

The perfect finish to your days in Edinburgh is a special whisky tour at the Scotch Whisky Experience, followed by a delicious 3 course meal at Amber restauraunt. Don’t forget to toast your adventures, Slainte Mhath!

Overnight: Edinburgh | Gleneagles Townhouse
Room Type: 2 x House Room (next to one another but not interconnecting)
Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

Day 4 - Thursday 17th July - Pick Up Your Rental Car & Drive to Gleneagles via St Andrews

This morning a private transfer will take you to collect your luxury SUV rental vehicle from a location on the outskirts of the city, making it much easier to head right off on your explorations. Check in time at Gleneagles is not until 3pm, so you have lots of flexibility to take your time discovering the highlights of St Andrews and the Kingdom of Fife.

The characterful university town of St Andrews is full of history and stories. More recently the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge famously met during their studies here but St Andrews is much better known for being the ‘birthplace of golf’ and you will find references to ‘the great game’ around every corner. If you have time we highly recommend taking a stroll through some of the charming and picturesque fishing villages. These harbour houses are now popular with artists and writers but the sea still has a heavy influence on everyday life for most people in the local communities. Maybe even trying the award-winning local ‘fish & chips’ for a tasty snack.

Then carry on to your luxurious resort hotel to get settled into your private two bedroom suite.

Overnight: Auchterarder | Gleneagles Hotel
Room Type: Two Bedroom Whisky Suite
Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 5 - Friday 18th July - Hiking The Beautiful Local Area & Hearing Its Stories

Your hiking guide will have been in touch to agree a meeting point this morning, so set off ready for a hill adventure. There are a huge variety of great hiking options in the local area, so your guide will discuss the best options with you to suit your preferred level of challenge, your energy levels and the weather! You may end up on top of a summit enjoying the surrounding views, or taking a tranquil hike along a glen to find some photogenic waterfalls.

Late afternoon settle in a local pub for a private storytelling experience, always best enjoyed over a celebratory beverage. You can choose if you want to focus on local history or maybe the outlandish Scottish legends which still persist today. At the end of a great day, head back to your hotel to celebrate with a good meal as you relive the days fun.

Overnight: Auchterarder | Gleneagles Hotel
Room Type: Two Bedroom Whisky Suite
Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 6 - Saturday 19th July - The 'Sport Of Kings', Unique History & The Oldest Whisky Distillery

This morning get a taste of the gentille art of falconry with an expert Falconer. This ‘sport of kings’ dates back thousands of years and will astound you with the beauty and accuracy displayed. Try flying an impressive Harris Hawk, but don’t worry you will have the full protective kit to keep you safe and comfortable.

After lunch today head to Innerpeffray Library, which was the first free public lending library in Scotland set up around 1680 by the 3rd Lord Madertie. Here you will get a private tour from the Keeper Of The Books, who will also have set out some books on your specific interests if you would like to choose a focus. The hot drink and locally baked scones here will set you up for the last visit of your Scottish explorations.

Glenturret Distillery is the oldest working whisky distillery in Scotland, and with all that history it has has many tales to tell. Discover some of those stories with a tour of the distillery and finish with a taste too (the driver will get a wee dram to take away, as there is a zero-alcohol while driving law in Scotland). What better way to finish?!

Overnight: Auchterarder | Gleneagles Hotel
Room Type: Two Bedroom Whisky Suite
Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 7 - Sunday 20th July -

Drive to Edinburgh Airport this morning where you will drop off your rental vehicle and make your onward connections. Waving farewell for now but taking with you special memories and wonderful stories of your explorations.
