Overview

Ireland is an ancient Celtic land where you will experience picturesque coastal towns and villages, green pastoral fields, soaring cliffs, wild barren landscapes, the crash of the ocean, the laugh of a local. Ireland is romantic, authentic, a home away from home where both old and modern seem to cohabit seamlessly on a small island in the middle of the sea. Packed with history and tradition your days are spent exploring the island of Ireland’s famous and of the beaten track sites of natural, cultural and political interest. A world renowned food scene means your evenings are spent dining in style and with the promise of a pub just around the corner, music and laughter are never far away. Your trip to Ireland will surprise and delight you but the people of Ireland will stay with you, long after your journey has taken you home.

Kinsale has firmly established its place as a foodies mecca and with so many glorious venues on your doorstep, tourists and locals alike flock to Kinsale for their wonderful food. For a foodie fanatic, your walking tour today will take you to a selection of different eateries, meeting locals and sampling sweet and savoury treats as you go, not to mention some liquid fortification! From local seaweed to oysters, chowder to Irish soda bread and homemade butter, beer-battered fish and chips, local ice cream, chocolate and cake! During the tour, hear stories about the food and meet some of the fascinating characters who make it too.

After a glorious few hours exploring Kinsale, we head out west to Kenmare, a pretty little town on The Ring of Kerry. En route, we take some time to visit an immersive edible garden for a relaxing tour led by an award-winning horticulturalists and head gardener duo before stopping at a traditional Irish thatched cottage and farm for some photos.

Day 4 - Hiking & Exploring Kerry

We set off this morning to walk some of the old Kenmare Road, a superb trail that meanders through the uplands of Killarney National Park. Forming part of the Kerry Way long-distance trail, it is a magical experience that will take you back in time and back to nature.
With your appetite fueled, we stop at Avoca, a fantastic local lunch spot that delivers some tasty locally sourced treats.
It’s hard to recommend just one peninsula in this southern region of West Cork and Kerry, as they all deserve a mention. Mizen, Sheepshead and Beara each carry authenticity and maintain a charm that’s sometimes lost in more populated areas. Their lesser-travelled landscapes make the towns and villages a breath of fresh air along the way. This afternoon explore the Beara Peninsula with your guide. Beara boasts a wealth of archaeological heritage amidst its Caha mountain range, such as the Urath Stone Circle and the Ballycrovane Ogham Stone, the tallest Ogham stone in the world.

Overnight: Kenmare
Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 5 - Seaweed Foraging & Whiskey

The pristine clear coastal waters of the Atlantic Coast offer the perfect environment for fishermen and farmers growing shellfish for hundreds of years.
Today you will take to these very shores along Kerry’s Wild Atlantic Way and meet one of our favourite characters. A fisherman, foraging expert, storyteller and a true Irish gent, John will take you on a wander along the shoreline learning about life on Ireland’s west coast all the while regaling you with tales of characters from the region, from lonely monks to 18th century civil rights activists to mythical heroes.

With the sea air at our backs, we explore The Kerry Cliffs and a local Whiskey Distillery with a tour and tasting of some of Ireland’s finest distilled whiskey before leaving Kerry. We travel north across the River Shannon and into Clare, to the little village of Ballyvaughan where locals and visiting musicians gather to sing and play many evenings a week. Sit by the open peat fire, sip a pint of Guinness and just see if you can stop your toes from tapping along with the rousing beats.

Overnight: Clare
Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 6 - Cliffs of Moher & Oyster Farm

We start today with a hike along the southern route of the Cliffs of Moher. It is hard to take in the sheer size and scale of these cliffs, home to thousands of migratory seabirds, the cliffs come alive during nesting season, with the calls of different species all filling the air.
Choose to spend some time at the visitors centre and viewing points or opt for a longer cliff walk with your guide as you wish.

We delight in a stop at a seafood restaurant for a delicious locally sourced lunch before an afternoon visit to an Oyster Farm. Learn about the area’s rich history of oyster bays, the life cycle of an oyster, seaweeds and sea creatures, celebrated in poem and song before a lesson in Shucking an Oyster.

This evening, we visit a small traditional pub frequented by the locals, where the warm and welcoming landlady will take you on a journey through the history of Irish Whiskey production with a selection of whiskeys included.
