Day by Day

Day 1 - Saturday 6th September - Arrive in Edinburgh

Arrive in Scotland’s elegant capital and check into the stylish Bonham Hotel. The day is yours to explore at leisure, with plenty of activities to choose from. You can meander through the cobbled streets of the Royal Mile, where hidden closes whisper stories of the past. Or admire masterpieces at the National Gallery. If you’re thirsty, you can pause for a dram in a cosy whisky bar, the warmth of the spirit matching the city’s inviting atmosphere. If time allows, take in the grandeur of the Georgian New Town with its neoclassical architecture or climb Carlton Hill to see the city from a new angle. As evening falls, savour Scotland’s finest at one of the city’s acclaimed restaurants before retreating to your hotel, the city’s magic lingering as you rest for the journey ahead.

Day 2 - Sunday 7th September - Edinburgh Castle & Vaults

Begin the day with a journey through Scotland’s past at Edinburgh Castle, its ancient walls standing proudly atop Castle Rock. Step into grand halls and royal chambers, where echoes of monarchs linger, and marvel at the splendour of the Crown Jewels. The afternoon is yours to explore at leisure. Wander through the elegant halls of Holyrood Palace, once home to Mary, Queen of Scots, or climb Arthur’s Seat for a breathtaking panorama of the city. As night falls, step into the shadows of Edinburgh’s past with a guided vaults tour beneath the city streets. Day 3 - Monday 8th September - St Andrews Golf & Huntingtower Castle

Your private guide collects you this morning for a scenic drive to St Andrews, the historic home of golf. As three of you step onto one of the town’s legendary golf courses, Kathy will delve into the medieval charm of St Andrews, wandering through its cobbled streets and learning about the grand cathedral ruins and the prestigious university. After lunch, you’ll reconvene and together journey north to Huntingtower Castle where you’ll explore its chambers and hidden staircases and learn about it’s ties to Mary, Queen of Scots. As the afternoon fades, the road winds into the breathtaking landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park. Arriving at your tranquil retreat, you can unwind in comfort, surrounded by nature’s quiet beauty.

Day 4 - Tuesday 9th September - Highland Farm Experience & Folk Museum

This morning, experience a slice of rural Scotland as you visit a local estate to meet Scotland’s iconic Highland cows and get a tour of the farm where they are raised. Gain insight into traditional farming methods before enjoying a delicious farm-to-table lunch featuring local produce. In the afternoon, step back in time at the Highland Folk Museum, where history comes to life in a unique open-air setting. Stroll through carefully reconstructed buildings, from rustic 18th-century dwellings to a vintage schoolhouse, and immerse yourself in the daily rhythms of Highland life through the centuries.

Day 5 - Wednesday 10th September - Culloden, Clava Cairns & Loch Ness to Skye

Begin the day at Culloden Battlefield, where you’ll explore the windswept moorland where the fateful 1746 clash that shaped Scotland’s history took place. Walk in the footsteps of Jacobite warriors and explore the immersive visitor centre, gaining a deeper understanding of the battle’s lasting impact. A short distance away, journey even further back in time at Clava Cairns, an Bronze age burial site steeped in mystery. Surrounded by weathered standing stones, feel the echoes of Scotland’s prehistoric past and the inspiration behind scenes in Outlander. From here, follow the winding road along the shores of Loch Ness, pausing to take in its deep, enigmatic waters—perhaps even catching a glimpse of its legendary inhabitant. You’ll then continue to Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks. Afterwards, cross the bridge to the Isle of Skye, where rugged landscapes and dramatic coastlines welcome you for a peaceful evening in this enchanting corner of the Highlands.

Day 6 - Thursday 11th September - Exploring Skye – Fairy Pools, Talisker & Portree

Skye’s rugged beauty awaits as you start the day at the Fairy Pools, where crystal-clear waterfalls cascade through a wild landscape framed by the towering Cuillin mountains. The gentle rush of water and the ever-changing light create a scene straight from folklore. After a scenic walk, head to Talisker Beach, where dark sands and towering sea cliffs meet the crashing Atlantic waves. Midday brings the rich, peaty warmth of a whisky tasting at Talisker Distillery, where the island’s wild character is distilled into every drop. A relaxed lunch at the Three Chimney’s pop up experience at Talisker Distillery allows time to savour Skye’s flavours. Day 7 - Friday 12th September - The Road to the Isles & Glencoe

Bid farewell to Skye and set out along the breathtaking Road to the Isles, where rugged mountains and shimmering lochs frame the journey. Pause at Glenfinnan, where the sweeping viaduct curves gracefully through the landscape, a sight made famous by the Jacobite steam train. Continuing south, enter the dramatic heart of Glencoe, a valley where sheer cliffs and towering peaks tell stories of both natural wonder and historic tragedy. Visit the Glencoe Visitor Centre to uncover the tale of the infamous massacre before taking time to soak in the glen’s haunting beauty.
