A wonderful experience for the whole family on this 8 day adventure into the Highlands of Scotland.  Explore the rolling hills of Perthshire, travel in style on the Harry Potter Steam Train and visit Britain’s first open air museum, where scenes from the famous TV show Outlander were filmed!  Your experienced guide will tailor all hikes and activities to suit the whole family so you can sit back, relax and let the wonders of Scotland work their magic.

Day by Day

Day 1 - Saturday 13th April - Welcome to Scotland

On arrival at Edinburgh you will be greeted by your main driver guide who will transfer you to your city centre accommodation.  Once you’ve dropped your bags, you will set off to start exploring the city on a private Harry Potter tour.  From the cobblestone streets of the Old Town to the luscious green spaces of Holyrood Park.  Follow in the footsteps of JK Rowling and visit the places that inspired the tales of the child wizard.  Visit Victoria Street that Diagon Alley was based upon, Greyfriers Kirk where Tom Riddle is buried and other secret places only known to locals.  A fantastic way to start your time in Edinburgh.

Day 2 - Sunday 14th April - Magical afternoon tea and Free afternoon

Continue your Harry Potter explorations today with your guide.  Head to the department of Magic to enjoy a child friendly escape room experience.  As the last hope for the magical world, you will need to use your skills to solve the puzzles and find the clues to stop he who must not be named.  As a reward for solving the mystery you will indulge in a fantastical afternoon tea and delight in a range of delicious savoury and sweet treats, and brew your own magical tea.

After a very busy morning, the rest of your afternoon is free to wander the hidden cobblestone streets of this beautiful city or head up the Royal Mile to shop for some Scottish souvenirs.  If you have some energy left, there is the option to explore the wonderful Camera Obscura museum, where nothing is what it seems – before heading back to your hotel to rest and relax for the evening.

Day 3 - Monday 15th April - The Rolling Hills of Perthshire

You will head out of the city this morning to start your adventure in the Highlands of Scotland.  Your first stop will be at the crowning place of the Kings and Queens of Scotland where you will take a self guided tour of the Palace and gardens, where the kids will discover the adventure playground and the wonderful Murray Star Maze – see who can get to the middle first!  After lunch you will continue north where you can take a short walk to an ancient Georgian Folly, that overlooks a wonderful waterfall that crashes into dark pools far below.  Your accommodation for the next three nights is on the bank of the babbling River Tay.

Day 4 - Tuesday 16th April - Exploring Pitlochry

The town of Pitlochry sits on the edge of the River Tummel and is a wonderful town to explore.  You can wander along the high street, perhaps taking a visit to the old fashioned sweetie shop before taking a walk along the river to the Salmon Ladder where you may see some fish jumping upstream and round Loch Faskally.  There is also a lovely whisky distillery in the heart of the village if you fancy a quick tour and tasting. Your final stop today will be for hot chocolates at the local chocolate shop which is right next to your hotel.

Day 5 - Wednesday 17th April - To the West

It is time to leave the rolling hills of Perthshire behind and head to the dramatic mountains and jagged peaks of the Nevis Range.  On the way you will spend the morning at a wonderful outdoor museum that shows what life was like for Highlanders from the 1700s up until the 1950s. Take a lesson in the school, explore the local township where you can dress up in the costumes of the day and have some time to play in the wonderful playground.  Continuing on your journey you will arrive in the adventure town of Fort William, nestled in the shadow of the UKs highest mountain , where you will be living like royalty and staying in a beautiful castle hotel.

Day 6 - Thursday 18th April - Trains and Kayaks

Let your inner wizard run free this morning with an awesome trip on the famous Harry Potter Steam Train.  Dress up in your robes and grab your wand for this wonderful journey through some of the most scenic landscapes in Scotland.  Don’t forget to look out for Dumbledore’s island as you race along the loch and look out for flying cars as you charge across the viaduct.  Alighting in Mallaig your guide will be waiting for you and you will head to Arisag for an afternoon of kayaking around the coastline.  Explore the wee inlets and look out for the friendly seal colony popping their heads up to say hello as you glide along the crystal clear waters.  A wonderful way to spend a day on the West Coast.

Day 7 - Friday 19th April - Exploring Glen Nevis

For your final day in the Scottish Highlands you will explore the amazing Glen Nevis with its forests, lochs and mountains.  Under the watchful eyes of your experienced guide you will climb up to visit the impressive Steal Falls, this cascading waterfall featured in the Goblet of Fire movie where Harry faces the Horntail dragon in the Triwizard Tournament and is also the second highest waterfall in Scotland with a drop of 120 metres!  With views all the way down the glen on this walk, it showcases the best of Scotland.  On the way back you can pop into the visitors centre at the foot of The Ben before having a celebratory drink at a walkers inn to commemorate your time in Scotland.

Day 8 - Saturday 20th April - Return to Edinburgh

It is time to head back to the city in time for your flights home.  Depending on your schedule there may be time to stop for one last short walk on the way back as you transfer through the dramatic Glencoe back to Edinburgh.
