Walk the ramparts atop castle rock and hear the tales of the One O’Clock gun and the stories of locals of times past.

Your guide will leave you here so that you can spend as much time in the castle as you wish. Enjoy lunch before taking a journey back into your own family history with a private meeting with a genealogist, discovering some of the links to locations which have been important to your ancestors over the years. Day 3 - Sunday 20th July - Meet Your Guide & Discover St Andrews

This morning your Private Guide (who will also act as your driver) will meet you at your hotel and together you will head north to start your Scottish explorations. Starting with the characterful university town of St Andrews in the Kingdom of Fife. You can feel the years of history in the streets and the soaring heights of the cathedral.

More recently the Prince & Princess of Wales famously met during their studies here but St Andrews is much better known for being the home of golf. Join a small group for lunch and a special guided tour of ‘The Old Course’ with a local golf expert. Hear the tales of the birthplace of ‘the great game’ and as this is Sunday with no play, you get to walk the course.

Overnight: St Andrews | Rufflets
Room Type: Turret Room
Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 4 - Monday 21st July - Step Back In Time At Outlander Locations

Step back in time to the world of Outlander today as you discover several fascinating locations used in the filming of the ‘Outlander’ series. Visit Falkland Palace, a Royal pleasure palace beloved by Mary Queen Of Scots with fabulous tapestries and artworks that are hundreds of years old. See the oldest surviving real Tennis Court, walk in the beautiful grounds and explore the basement Apothecary (used in season 2).

Then head onwards to walk the picturesque cobbled streets of the Royal Burgh of Culross, a once-bustling port. Imagine life in those turbulent times as you enjoy the wonderful views out over the firth. If there is time this afternoon take in the charms of the Fife fishing villages, clustered around their tiny fishing harbours. Maybe sample the famous ‘fish & chips’ fresh from the sea before your guide takes you back to your hotel.

Overnight: St Andrews | Rufflets
Room Type: Turret Room
Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 5 - Tuesday 22nd July - North to The Highlands & Fishing Afternoon

Today you will head north towards the Highlands. There are many options along the way for a leg stretch to take in the beautiful scenery, which your guide will bring to life for you as you travel. So maybe take a stroll to discover a special beauty spot, or visit the fascinating recreated historic buildings in Highland Folk Museum (a key Outlander filming location), before continuing north.

This afternoon enjoy a private fly fishing experience. Your guide will take you to a quiet loch or river bank where you will be met by your expert local fisherman. Spend the afternoon immersing yourselves in the techniques and lovely location with the added benefit of specific insider knowledge. Your guide will then take you to your welcoming hotel, which was Bonnie Prince Charlie’s headquarters before the Battle of Culloden and is a favourite of the Outlander author.

Overnight: Inverness | Culloden House Hotel
Room Type: Superior Double
Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 6 - Wednesday 23rd July - Culloden Battlefield, Standing Stones & Moray

This morning visit the atmospheric Culloden Battlefield, the site of the last battle of the Jacobite rising in 1746. Here you will take a private tour of the battlefield and the visitor centre before heading to the site of three Bronze Age burial chambers and standing stones known as Clava Cairns (said to be the inspiration behind the standing stone in the Outlander tales). This site is exceptionally well preserved and a great example of prehistoric history in Scotland dating back over 4,000 years.

This afternoon immerse yourselves in your family history as you explore the Moray countryside with your guide. Discover the fascinating wool mill in Elgin, which has been part of the local community fabric since 1846. You may also have a special spot to visit which your genealogist has identified as important to your ancestors.

Finish the day with a tour and dram at one of the local distilleries. Raise your glass to toast ‘Slainte Mhath’, the perfect finish to your adventures. At the end of the day your guide will take you back to your hotel and depart, leaving you to enjoy a final relaxing evening by yourselves.
