Day 7 - Thursday 2nd October - Wicklow

Our private guide meets us this morning and takes us to Glendalough Monastery, one of the oldest and most significant monastic and pilgrimage sites in Ireland. Founded by St Kevin in the 7th century as a respite from the world, it eventually grew into an important centre of learning, its scholars producing astonishing illuminated manuscripts as well as astronomical and mathematical texts. Not only is Glendalough’s history intriguing, but its setting in the lush wooded valley of two lakes is stunning. Also, perhaps make the time to visit local potter Nicolas Mosse’s studio or learn about the age-old tradition of handweaving at a 300-year-old family-run establishment.

Day 8 - Friday 3rd October - The Cliffs of Moher

Our guide will meet this morning, and together we will transfer west from Dublin to County Clare, home to Ireland’s famed Cliffs of Moher. En route, a visit will be made to the ancient monastic site of Clonmacnoise, founded by St Ciarán in the 6th century. The peaceful setting, with its rich history and well-preserved ruins, offers a lovely pause before continuing the journey. The site features a cathedral, round towers, high crosses, and early Christian grave slabs, providing a glimpse into Ireland’s early Christian heritage. Later, use the quiet of the afternoon to visit Ireland’s famed Cliffs of Moher, part of the UNESCO Global Geopark, a special region with outstanding geology. Visually stunning, the Cliffs Stand 702 ft at their highest point and stretch for 5 miles along the Atlantic coast.

Learn about the unique Irish culture, traditions, and language of the islanders, the beautiful flora and fauna, and, of course, visit the filming site from the recent Banshees of Inisherin film. This experience is unique in that it provides the opportunity to visit parts of the island not readily accessible to those without both local knowledge and a 4×4 vehicle, making for a very memorable day.
