Jacada Travel - Nancy and Charles Scotland Explorations

Wednesday 14th August – Tuesday 20th August 2024

Duration: 7 Days / 6 Nights

Day by Day

Day 1 - Wednesday 14th August - Welcome to Scotland

On arrival into Edinburgh airport you will be met by your private guide who is also your driver for your time in Scotland and you’ll head north into the heart of the largest national park in the UK.

Depending on the time of arrival there may be time to stop off for a short leg stretch where towering pines rustle in the wind as the water crashes over rocks as it heads down stream or perhaps visit a local castle which is home to the only private army in the UK.

Your accommodation this evening is in the pretty village of Braemar, where you can enjoy a delicious dinner before returning to your suite for the night.

Overnight: Braemar | The Fife Arms
Room Type: 1 x Victoriana Suite
Meals Included: Lunch

Day 2 - Thursday 15th August - Exploring the National Park

Whenever you are ready this morning you can head out with your guide to start exploring the National Park.  Famous for its impressive mountains and incredible hikes, there are also lots of things to see at a lower level.  You will head to the foot of the iconic Lochnagar mountain to visit Loch Muick, which has a variety of wildlife and stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

After lunch in a local cafe, you will head back to the hotel to enjoy an afternoon of foraging with an expert ghillie who will show you how to create some mouthwatering edibles from the goodies found in the hedgerows and fields nearby.  A unique experience you’ll remember long before you leave this ancient land.

Overnight: Braemar | The Fife Arms
Room Type: 1 x Victoriana Suite
Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 3 - Friday 16th August - Castles and Creativity

Head out this morning to explore Braemar Castle, home of hunting, building, Jacobite Risings and Burnings!  This castle was at risk of closing permanently in 2007 until the local community stepped up to help!  Learn how the power of the people helped save this historical landmark as you wander through the rooms that depict the journey of how the castle has transformed over the years.

This afternoon, you will meet with a local expert who will lead you in a creative workshop – where you can connect with the nature all around you through the medium of art.  Sitting with your sketch pad with just the sound of the squirrels chattering in the trees and the sunshine dappling through the leaves, let everything else seep away and just be in the moment in the glorious wilderness of Scotland.

Overnight: Braemar | The Fife Arms
Room Type: 1 x Victoriana Suite
Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 4 - Saturday 17th August - Transfer to Edinburgh

It is time to leave the Highlands this morning and head back to the bright lights of the city.  On your way south you can divert to the city of Dundee to explore some of the wonderful museums here such as the V&A or RSS Discovery that took Captain Scott to the Antarctic over a century ago.  Explore the streets and enjoy some lunch before continuing onto Edinburgh in the afternoon.

Your guide will drop you off at your hotel and you’ll have the rest of the day to yourselves to use the spa facilities or head out to start soaking in the festival atmosphere.

Room Type: 1 x Deluxe Castle View Room
Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 5 - Sunday 18th August - Exploring Glasgow

Your guide will collect you from your hotel this morning and you will head west to Scotland’s second city for the day.  Explore the highlights of the city on a private walking tour with an expert local guide this morning.  Discover the stories tied in with the varied architecture of streets that have been home to all kinds of creatives over the years. See the influences of Charles Rennie MackIntosh and admire the popular contemporary graffiti murals tucked into unexpected corners all over the city.

The rest of the day is free to continue exploring with your guide, perhaps visit Kelvingrove or take a wander along the river banks that seem so tranquil within the hustle and bustle of the city.  When you are ready your guide will take you back to Edinburgh so you can enjoy dinner in one of the many local eateries in the city before retiring for the evening.

Overnight: Edinburgh | The Balmoral Hotel
Room Type: 1 x Deluxe Castle View Room

Day 6 - Monday 19th August - Festival Vibes and the Royal Military Tattoo

The streets of Edinburgh will be buzzing with energy due to the various festivals running this month and you will pass street performers and entertainment on every corner as you explore. Follow your curiosity through the twisting cobbled streets of the Old Town with your guide and enjoy the vibrant ambience. There will be a huge variety of different shows and concerts to choose from if you wish to catch a performance.

After a wonderful day you will head to the castle esplanade tonight to experience the wonder that is the Royal Military Tattoo.  Enjoy dinner in the castle itself where members of the cast will give a preview of what is to come before you take your premier seats ready for the performance.  Let the music and the military precision lead you on a journey through the stories before the fireworks light up the sky above your head to signal the end of this annual spectacular.  A fantastic way to end your time in Scotland.
