Day by Day

Day 1 - Thursday 10th July - Welcome to Scotland

On arrival at the Edinburgh Waverly Train Station, you will be met by a private driver who will transfer you to your city centre hotel. Depending on your arrival time you can choose to relax at the hotel or head out to start exploring this unique city.

Day 2 - Friday 11th July - Explore Edinburgh

This morning, a private walking tour with an expert guide unveils the winding cobbled streets of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town. Highlights include the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the mighty fortress of Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Royal Mile. From the castle ramparts, tales of the One O’Clock Gun and the city’s past come to life. The tour concludes at the castle, leaving time to explore its halls and exhibitions.

Day 3 - Saturday 12th July - Stirling Castle and Doune Castle

This morning, your guide will meet you at your accommodation. As you travel together towards Oban, stop to visit Stirling Castle. An iconic fortress steeped in Scotland’s history, this formidable castle is perched high on a rocky hilltop with sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. After, Visit the impressive Doune Castle, recognised as ‘Castle Leoch’ from Outlander. Once a royal residence, this historic site has also served as a backdrop for Game of Thrones and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Please note: to accommodate visiting both locations and the transfer time from Edinburgh to Oban this will be an early start to the day

Day 4 - Sunday 13th July - Kilmartin Glen

Today you will visit Kilmartin Glen with your guide, one of the most significant archaeological landscapes on mainland Scotland. Here there is a museum and a huge collection of Neolithic and Bronze age artefacts. A short hike will take you to standing stones and burial cairns and you may wish to climb to the hill fort of Dunadd, said to be the birthplace of Scotland it was where ancient kings were crowned.

Day 5 - Monday 14th July - In Search of Eagles

As the morning light unfurls across the bay your guide will meet you at your accommodation ready to catch the ferry to the Isle of Mull. Home to a large variety of birdlife, including breeding raptors as well as rare and endangered birds – it’s an exciting place to spend time. Upon our arrival, enjoy some lunch before going in search of some of Mull’s best-known residents: white-tailed eagles. On a beautiful hike, depending on the time of year we may see them in the nest or as fledglings exploring the skies. We settle into our island accommodation in Tobermory this evening, taking time to rest before the adventure continues tomorrow.

Day 6 - Tuesday 15th July - Wildlife and Whisky

After breakfast, head out with your guide for a wonderful circular walk that showcases some of the beautiful west coast scenery. As you hike, keep an eye out for merlin, buzzards and hen harriers. Chat with your guide about the local flora and fauna of the area, spotting sea thrift and wild thyme. We wind our way to the Whisky Cave, where the foundations of illicit stills are still visible, before ribboning towards the once bustling village of Crackaig, abandoned since the early 1900s. Listen out for thrushes and skylarks as you walk through the patchwork of ruined crofts, imagining a time long ago when the voices of highlanders would join the melodic soundtrack of birdsong.

Day 7 - Wednesday 16th July - Exploring Mull

Day 8 - Thursday 17th July - Experience Glencoe

This morning day goodbye to Mull as you head to catch the ferry back to Oban with your guide. Upon arrival head to Glencoe where the dramatic mountains and ridges have featured in numerous films, and it’s easy to understand why when gazing up at these towering peaks. Explore this iconic valley with a guide, offering routes that cater to all levels of energy and adventure. As the day winds down, relax with a refreshing drink and listen to captivating tales from a local storyteller, delving into the fascinating and often dark history of Glencoe.

Day 9 - Friday 18th July - Over the Sea to Skye

This morning, head to the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which you may well recognise from the Harry Potter films. Stop to hear the tales of the Glenfinnan Monument and see if you can spot the Jacobite Steam Train puffing its way along the tracks. This afternoon, explore part of the Great Glen Way by bike, cycling along well-maintained trails that link Fort William to Inverness, this route has stunning views over lochs, forests, and the surrounding Highlands.

Day 10 - Saturday 19th July - Loch Ness and Urqhuart Castle

Today, visit Urquhart Castle, a striking ruin set on the shores of Loch Ness, where centuries of Scottish history unfold against breathtaking views of the loch and surrounding hills. Explore the castle’s remains and discover its role in medieval Scotland. Carry on to your accommodation in Inverness, the Highland Capital, before saying goodbye to your guide taking a moment to reflect on the many happy memories you have made during your time together.

Day 11 - Sunday 20th July - Depart

A private transfer will collect you from your accommodation and take you to the airport to make your onward connections. Waving farewell for now but taking with you special memories and wonderful stories of your explorations.
