Day by Day

Day 1 - Saturday 11th November - Arrive in Edinburgh

Your private transfer will meet you at Edinburgh Airport and transfer you to your welcoming hotel in the heart of the city. Take some time to relax and settle in, enjoying an oasis of calm as the city’s characterful streets buzz and bustle beyond the window. After checking in at your hotel, head towards the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town, on the Royal Mile nestled between the Georgian architecture you will find Colonnades at the Signet Library, the perfect place for ‘Edinburgh’s finest afternoon tea’ and champagne. Celebrate the start of your adventure in Scotland before strolling around this wonderful city.

Day 2 - Sunday 12th November - Exploring Edinburgh

After breakfast head out for a day spent exploring the beautiful cobblestone streets of Edinburgh. Full of history, the capital is very accessible by foot. Wander up the Royal Mile, stopping to visit the architecturally stunning St Giles Cathedral, and enjoy panoramic views from Edinburgh Castle. Pick up a coffee and a pastry from one of the wee artisan shops, dipping into local galleries, cheesemongers and bookshops. If you fancy an afternoon with a twist, head to the Surgeons’ Hall Museums, which holds one of the largest collections of surgical pathology in the world. This evening enjoy dinner under the twinkling lights of the city.

Day 3 - Monday 13th November - Whisky Tasting and The Highlands

Head to Edinburgh Station and collect your hire vehicle before travelling into the region of Perthshire, stop in the quaint town of Pitlochry for a stroll and perhaps head to the Historic viewpoint of Queens View for iconic panoramas over Loch Tummel. Following the river as you head north, you will find the town of Dalwhinnie, from this remote but accessible location, comes the liquid known as the gentle spirit. Take a peek at the ins and outs of the working distillery and discover its unique high location and its iconic malt with a Distillery tasting and tour before continuing to Inverness.

Day 4 - Tuesday 14th November - Culloden Moor and Coastal Walks

Leaving the city behind head East to Culloden Battlefield, the site of the last battle of the Jacobite rising in 1746. Here you can take a tour of the battlefield and the visitor centre before heading to the site of three Bronze Age burial chambers and standing stones known as Clava Cairns. This site is exceptionally well preserved and a great example of prehistoric history in Scotland dating back over 4,000 years. Delving further into the battle history of Scotland, walk the walls of Fort George, an impressive historic military fortification which took 22 years to build after the bloody battle of Culloden. Keep your eyes open for Dolphins as they are often spotted leaping in the waters here as you absorb the beauty of the rugged coastal region. On your return to Inverness, explore the city at your leisure or relax at your boutique hotel.

Day 5 - Wednesday 15th November - Legends of Loch Ness

Today you will visit the iconic ruins of Urquhart Castle. Perched on the shores of Loch Ness, the castle offers a glimpse into a bygone era of conflict, clans and legends. As you explore the ramparts and peer through the weathered windows, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views over Loch Ness, its serene waters shrouded in legendary tales. As you weave into the mountain, amidst the enchanting Scottish Highlands, a visit to Dundreggan Rewilding Centre offers a captivating journey into the heart of ecological restoration and wilderness conservation. As you step onto the grounds of this remarkable sanctuary, you’ll find yourself enveloped by the serenity of ancient Caledonian forests and pristine landscapes, where once-threatened species are making a triumphant return. Wander along winding trails that lead you through flourishing woodlands, and listen to the melodious symphony of native birdsong echoing through the trees. As you make your way back to the Loch, stop for a scrumptious lunch At Fort Augustus and spectacular views down Loch Ness. Arriving back in Inverness, relish the opportunity to sit and relax with a dram of whisky as you toast your final night in the Highlands.

Day 6 - Thursday 16th November - Cairngorm Mountains and Reindeer

Leaving the picturesque town of Inverness, start your enchanting journey towards Aviemore, a place known for its rugged beauty and incredible wildlife. As you head deep into the mountains, arrive at the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre, for a wintery chance to encounter these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. As you venture deeper into the Scottish Highlands, the stunning landscapes will unfold before your eyes, with rolling hills and thick forests providing a scenic backdrop. Loch an Eilein awaits at the foot of the mountains, an extremely beautiful sheet of water, reflecting the magnificent pines of Rothiemurchus Forest in which it lies; a ruined island castle is the final touch to make this a truly memorable walk in the Cairngorms. Setting your sights on the historic town of St. Andrews, famous for its ancient university, golf courses, and charming seaside atmosphere, continue in the afternoon to your Coastal home of St Andrews.

Day 7 - Friday 17th November - St Andrews and an Idyllic Coast

Day 8 - Saturday 18th November - Return to Edinburgh

Return your hire vehicle before venturing into the city for a final day of Exploration.  Wander through charming alleys, and visit the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where they uncovered intriguing royal history, followed by a hike up Arthur’s Seat for breathtaking vistas. Perhaps conclude your day in a cosy pub with a pint of local ale, capping off an unforgettable Scottish exploration. Spend your final evening dining out in this wonderful city before your onward travel in the morning.
