Picturesque coastal towns and villages, green pastoral fields, soaring cliffs, wild barren landscapes, the crash of the ocean, the laugh of a local. Ireland and Scotland are romantic and authentic, a home away from home where both old and modern seem to cohabit seamlessly on these small islands in the middle of the sea.

Packed with history and tradition, your days are spent exploring the region’s famous and off-the-beaten-track sites of natural, cultural and political interest. A world-renowned food scene means your evenings are spent dining in style, and with the promise of a pub just around the corner, music and laughter are never far away. Your trip to Ireland and Scotland will surprise and delight you but it’s the people you will meet along the way that will stay with you long after your journey has taken you home.

Day by Day

Day 1 - Saturday 17th May - Welcome to Ireland, afternoon Cliffs of Moher

From the metropolis of Dublin, you’ll meet your private guide this morning to journey to the vast west coast. Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way is calling with crashing Atlantic waves, sea cliffs, pristine beaches and green valleys. As we cross the country’s interior we stop at the ancient monastic site of Clonmacnoise. St Ciarán founded his monastery on the banks of the River Shannon in the 6th Century. The monastery flourished and became a great seat of learning, a University of its time with students from all over Europe. Today the ruins include a Cathedral, two round towers, three high crosses, nine Churches and over 700 Early Christian grave slabs. Later today we take advantage of a quiet evening to visit The Cliffs of Moher after the crowds of the day have departed. Standing over 800 feet tall, the cliffs are home to a myriad of seabirds and a hive of activity.

Day 2 - Sunday 18th May - The Aran Islands

It’s hard to resist the allure of one of the many islands that dot the Irish coastline and today you and your guides will take to the water and ferry to The Aran Islands. The history of these islands goes back millennia, and today Irish is still the daily spoken language of the inhabitants. The Aran islands seem to defy their size by all they have to offer: breathtaking scenery, mediaeval castles, cliffs and prehistoric forts are all found on this little group of islands. Inis Mór, the largest of the three islands, is your destination today. The first port of call is a goat farm. Here, Gabriel, a fisherman-come-goat farmer and island native, will introduce you to his flock of extraordinarily cute goats. You’ll taste his award-winning cheese, but more importantly, you will leave with his wealth of knowledge on the island’s history, language and culture. We will make sure you don’t miss the incredible prehistoric cliff-top fortress at Dun Aenghus, as well as some hidden spots along the island’s shore.

Your guide will discuss your departure time with you the evening before.

Galway is the capital of Ireland’s west. Known as the ‘town of the tribes’, the small centre of cobblestone streets and colourful storefronts is vibrant, fun and cosmopolitan. You will attend Mass here at Galway Cathedral and receive a blessing from the priest. After lunch, a local military historian will meet you at the city’s main square to guide you through the bustling alleys sharing Galway City’s important roles in the clash of the French, Spanish, Russian and British Empires from 1700 to 1922, including in Ireland’s revolution for independence.  Return to Clare, where your guide will say farewell and enjoy your final night on the West Coast with a toast to the days ahead.

You will visit a farm where you’ll enjoy the opportunity to walk through this unique landscape, This tour will also include a walk to a prehistoric stone fort with a worldly history which will be brought to life by the farm’s local guide and multisensory presentations. Excavations from the site, ranging from Venetian glass and Baltic amber, serve to juxtapose the ancient settlement against its contemporary trading inhabitants.

Emergency services:  999 or 112NHS 24 (24 hour free medical advice):  111

Tipping Guidelines

For tipping our guides – We don’t generally recommend a set amount as tipping is not expected in the same way that it is in North America. However, similar North American travel companies generally suggest something along the lines of £10-30 per person per day for your guide, which is a wide range to choose from. Generally, we would encourage you to ask yourself what you were expecting from your guide, and then think about how they have exceeded those expectations and choose an amount you are comfortable with.

For local services such as restaurants again tipping is not expected but if you receive great service then 10-15% of the bill is normal.

Meet Your Guides

Fionnuala Kennedy

Contact Number: +353 (0)87 774 1061

For me, days spent in the hills and wilds of Ireland are about being immersed in that place. I love being up high and being able to read the landscape. If you know what to look for it can reveal so many stories; of human lives past, of glaciers and oceans long gone, and of wildlife very much alive. I love to try and interpret these stories.

Several years working in outdoor education and as an archaeological guide has led to a fascination with our history, heritage and folklore, something which only deepens with time. And then there’s history and botany and geology and astronomy… sometimes there’s just too much that’s interesting.

Along the way, I’ve had an assortment of other jobs, from growing trees to growing vegetables, and from teaching music in schools to playing tunes in McLynns pub in Sligo on Friday nights.

Me In Three – Kind Cheeky Adventurous

Mini Bio
Having had the most extraordinary good fortune and privilege to travel on adventures and lead expeditions to all seven continents, allowing me to become more familiar with the Khumbu Valley in Nepal than the Lairig Ghru in the Cairngorms, I am still as passionate as ever to share my enthusiasm for my home country, Scotland.

Whether travelling on skis or snowboard; by kayak, canoe, raft, boat or windsurfer; shod in rock-shoes or snow-shoes or equipped with ice axe and crampons – whether out on my own, with friends, or leading and teaching others, I am still often not able to tell the difference between days of work or play.

Favourite Place to Play

The Khumbu Valley, or anywhere in Bonnie Scotland.

Not a lot of People Know This

I was President of the school Poetry Club and Gardening Club when I was 11 years old (perhaps an early indication of my destiny towards roles of influence and responsibility?!).
