Day by Day

Day 1 - Monday 24th June - Welcome to Dublin

Arriving in Ireland today, your private transfer will pick you up from the airport and whisk you into the city to your 5 star hotel in the city centre. Check-in may not be available till this afternoon, however feel free to leave your bags, freshen up, or have a bite to eat.

The rest of the day is free to explore Dublin from the comfort and proximity of your hotel. There are some great self guided tours we can recommend or simply relax at your hotel enjoying the amenities. We are happy to make a restaurant recommendations and reservations for you and your guides will join you tomorrow.

Day 2 - Tuesday 25th June - Walking Tour of Dublin

Your guides will join you at your hotel this morning and after some brief introductions its time to get out and explore!
One of the best ways to get to know a new city and learn some of its history is on a walking tour and this morning we have arranged for a local historian and guide to lead you around some of Dublins most famous and infamous sites.

Dublin is a vibrant capital city, with its mix of 1,000 years of architecture from the mediaeval to Georgian to modern. See the Georgian style Merrion Square, lush St. Stephen’s Green and Fitzwilliam Square, as well as O’Connell Street, the site of the ‘1916 Uprising’ that led to Ireland’s independence in 1922. Your guide is also a historian who will bring the city to life with colourful tales of life in the city in times gone by.

Day 3 - Wednesday 26th June - Little Museum of Dublin

This morning head to the Little Museum of Dublin for a private tour with the curator enjoying a brief and entertaining dive into the social history of the city. Enjoy a delicious lunch in the cafe next door before spending the rest of the afternoon exploring the city with your guide.

No visit to Dublin is complete without a tour of the iconic Guinness  Storehouse. Your tour takes you across seven floors and the history of Guinness before taking in the 360 views of Dublin city from the Gravity Bar. From there, you will visit three different Dublin pubs, enjoying the best pints the city has to offer taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the city along the way.

Day 4 - Thursday 27th June - Dublin to Ashford

Leaving the east coast, today we make our way cross-country to the west and to Ireland’s famed Wild Atlantic Way. Your destination this afternoon is the icomic 800 year old Ashford Castle, once ownd by the Guinness Family.

On route, we will expand on our knowledge and history of Ireland with a stop at the ancient monastic site of Clonmacnoise. St Ciarán founded his monastery on the banks of the River Shannon in the 6th Century. The monastery flourished and became a great seat of learning, a University of its time with students from all over Europe. Today the ruins include a Cathedral, two round towers, three high crosses, nine Churches and over 700 Early Christian grave-slabs.

Day 5 - Friday 28th June - On site at Ashford

Once owned by the Guinness family, Ashford has a history dating back to the 12th century and has earned its place in Ireland’s history books. Today, Ashford is one of Ireland’s premier hotels offering an unforgettable experience.

Enjoy your day onsite today, soaking up the luxury and atmosphere of days gone past. A private Hawk Walk will give you the incredible opportunity to fly your very own Harris Hawks under the guidance of your instructor. After you have been introduced to your hawks you’ll set off into the magnificent woodlands to fly your hawks, as they follow you from tree to tree through the woods before swooping down to land on your gloved fist. Your instructor will explain the hawks’ exceptional eyesight, their speed and agility, and how they were trained by the Falconry School themselves.

Spend the afternoon relaxing or we can arrange some more activity for you including boat trips, clay shooting, a gentle bike ride or estate walks.

Day 6 - Saturday 29th June - Connemara National Park

Spend your day with your guide discovering the delights of Connemara National Park. There are a myriad of different walks and trails to choose from and the picture postcard views you will experience today are some of Ireland’s most beautiful and yearned for landscapes. With over 2,000 hectares of mountains, bogs, heaths, grasslands and forests to roam in, your guide will ensure this morning’s hike is unforgettable.

This afternoon, take a tour of the stunningly beautiful Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Gardens. With a history spanning six centuries, Kylemore Abbey is the oldest Irish Benedictine abbey. The abbey has endured through wars, national conflict and migration and today is both a wonderful immersive visitor attraction and the community and home to a group of Benedictine nuns.

For your final night in Ireland,  we recommend dining this evening  in lively Clifden village . Why not check out one of the local pubs after for a Trad. session. Your guide can return you to the castle when ready.

Day 7 - Sunday 30th June - Depart for Scotland

Depart today from your chosen airport, Knock is closest if there are flights available or Dublin will offer daily flights and transfer to Scotland, landing in Edinburgh where your Wilderness Scotland guide will be waiting to welcome you to Scotland.  From here you will transfer north out of the city to the rolling hills of Perthshire and your welcoming accommodation on the banks of a babbling brook that will lull you to sleep after your travel day.

Day 8 - Monday 1st July - Free morning and an Afternoon Cookery Class

Have a relaxing morning after a busy few days – perhaps enjoy a wander around the local village, enjoy the incredible surroundings by taking a short leg stretch with your guide or simply relax with a good book in the sunshine.  You’ll all meet up again at midday to enjoy an exclusive cookery class with an award-winning chef. Inspired by the landscape and local, sustainable produce, cook up a storm enjoying the zest of a meal created from the wild region. Tonight you will dine under the stars together and be entertained by a local storyteller and the echoing sounds of a traditional Scottish harp to accompany your meal.

Day 9 - Tuesday 2nd July - St Andrews and Transfer to Edinburgh

St Andrews – the hallowed home of golf with its pristine fairways stretching their way along the seafront and the sound of a nine iron echoing around the greens.  Departing your Perthshire hideaway early this morning you will arrive here in time to enjoy a round of golf on one of the many different courses.  For the non golfers in the party there are lots of other options such as exploring the town, taking a hike with the guide or perhaps simply enjoying a coffee and watching the world go by.  After lunch in the Clubhouse, you’ll head to Edinburgh for your final couple of nights on UK soil.

Day 10 - Wednesday 3rd July - Exploring Edinburgh

After breakfast, meet your guide in the foyer of your hotel and head out for a day spent exploring the beautiful cobblestone streets of the city. Full of history, the capital is very accessible by foot. Wander up the Royal Mile, stopping to visit the architecturally stunning St Giles Cathedral, and enjoy panoramic views from Edinburgh Castle. Pick up a coffee and a pastry from one of the wee artisan shops, dipping into local galleries, cheesemongers and bookshops. If you fancy an afternoon with a twist, head to the Surgeons’ Hall Museums, which holds one of the largest collections of surgical pathology in the world. This evening enjoy final dinner as a family under the twinkling lights of the city and a raise a toast to your Scottish and Irish adventure.
