Day by Day

Day 1 - Arrive in Edinburgh

Your Wilderness guide will meet you at Edinburgh airport and transfer you to your welcoming hotel. Take some time to relax and settle in, enjoying an oasis of calm as the city’s characterful streets buzz and bustle beyond the window. Depending on your arrival time, perhaps head out with your guide for a short walk up Calton Hill. From the top, which is marked by a collection of historical monuments, you can see many of Edinburgh’s famous landmarks, including Arthur’s Seat, the Firth of Forth and the Royal Mile as it climbs its way to the castle. After working up an appetite, enjoy a delicious dinner and a good night’s sleep.

Day 2 - A Magical Tour of the Capital City

After breakfast, meet your guide in the foyer of your hotel and head out to join a lively walking tour that celebrates all things Harry Potter. Wind your way through the streets that inspired JK Rowling’s famous books, testing your wizarding knowledge as you visit Tom Riddle’s grave and the real-life Diagon Alley. After lunch enjoy some time exploring, perhaps nosing into some of the independent shops that jostle for space on the colourful streets. As the shadows lengthen, head out this evening for a private tour of Edinburgh’s dark underbelly, discovering hidden streets, eerie dwellings and listening to spooky tales of both fact and fiction.

Day 3 - Visit a Goat Farm and Arrive in Braemar

This morning, begin your journey north. On your way, stop in the beautiful region of Perthshire to visit a local goat farm. Home to the largest herd of pedigree Toggenburg goats in the UK, this family-run farm also produces award-winning artisan cheese. A herd initially established in 1979, enjoy meeting the goats and learning about the cheese-making process. Afterwards, continue north, watching the landscape change from the rolling fields and old pastoral beauty of Perthshire to the rugged heathery hillsides of the Cairngorm mountains. Arrive in the picturesque village of Braemar this afternoon and settle into your cosy accommodation.

Day 4 - Exploring Linn O’Dee

Join your guide this morning for a walk through the intriguing and beautiful landscape of the Highlands. Hike along the banks of the River Dee, which rises from a spring on the Braeriach plateau in the Cairngorms and empties into the dark waters of the North Sea. Stop to admire Linn O’Dee, where the river cascades through a narrow chasm, overlooked by an old stone bridge. Visit the waterfall further up the glen, winding your way through old pinewoods that tang with sunshine and resin. This evening return to your accommodation and relax after an invigorating day spent in the fresh air.

Day 5 - South to Gleneagles

Today, leave the pretty stone village of Braemar behind as you travel south to Dunkeld. Stop at the Hermitage for a gentle walk through the leafy woodland. Pass Ossian’s Hall, a folly where you can look out over the cascading falls of the River Braan. Depending on how you feel, there is an option for a shorter or longer walk, both traversing the stunning countryside. Enjoy lunch in Dunkeld, perhaps having a potter around the pretty high street. Continue to your accommodation this afternoon and enjoy some free time. Choose to go for another scenic walk with your guide or simply take some downtime in which to relax before a lovely dinner this evening.

Day 6 - Depart Edinburgh

After breakfast, head to the airport and depart for home.
