Day by Day

Day 1 - Welcome to The Cairngorms National Park

Arrive in Aviemore this morning, a town nestled in the northern reaches of the Cairngorms National Park. If you are travelling from Edinburgh or Glasgow you can easily travel by train. On arrival, meet your Wilderness guide for the next stage of your adventure and head out for a short but spectacular walk. The Uath Lochans, known locally as the Paw Print Lochans, are a hive of biodiversity. Raised boardwalks wind through reedy marshlands. Look out for a glimpse of the occasional frog and the glittering wings of dragonflies as they dart over the wetlands. Climbing a short way to Farleitter Crag, this small hill offers incredible elevated views of the water, forest and surrounding Cairngorm Mountains. Relax into your accommodation this evening and enjoy your first Highland dinner.

Day 2 - Guided Biking in the Cairngorms

Trail riding is a great way to explore deep into the landscape and the route will be tailored to your experience and the distance you want to cover and be suitable for all ages and abilities. Choose a gentle forest ride, land-rover trails or technical single tracks. Your guide will take you through spectacular scenery on some of our favourite local routes. Today is guaranteed to be a fun and exciting way to experience the wild Cairngorm landscape.

Day 3 - Visit Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns

Head north this morning to visit Culloden Battlefield and its richly researched and engaging visitor centre. Learn about one of the most harrowing battles in Scottish history and walk across the rough moor where the Jacobites and the Government fought in 1746. Take the opportunity to visit Clava Cairns – a well-preserved Bronze Age cemetery complex of passage graves, ring cairns, kerb cairns and standing stones. After lunch, transfer to Fort Augustus, nestled on the shores of Loch Ness, and enjoy a short hike before settling into your boutique hotel.

Day 4 - Exploring Loch Ness

Enjoy a boat trip on Loch Ness today. This could either be a scenic cruise, or speed boat trip, whatever you prefer. Learn more about Loch Ness and the history of the area, including the elusive Nessie herself, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled, you may be ale to steal a glimpse of her yourself! You may wish to head out on another short hike this afternoon before another relaxing evening at The Lovat Hotel.

Day 5 - Jacobite Steam Train

After a relaxed breakfast, you’ll transfer south to Fort William, where you’ll hop aboard the Jacobite Steam Train. Warm drink in hand, sit back and relax as it chugs through some of the most stunning scenery of the Highlands. Cross the Glenfinnan viaduct (a location made famous in the Harry Potter films) which overlooks Loch Shiel and the Jacobite monument. After returning to Fort William, arrive at your luxury castle accommodation and settle in for a relaxing night.

Day 6 - Sea Kayaking in Arisaig

Enjoy a half day sea kayaking on the beautiful waters of Arisaig. The water here is sheltered and incredibly clear which makes it one of the best places in Scotland to kayak. With the tutelage of your expert guide, you’ll spend the morning exploring the coastline and rocky skerries, home to a variety of wildlife including a seal colony. This afternoon enjoy a short hike to Steall Falls, and return to Inverlochy Castle for another night in the lap of luxury.

Day 7 - Depart

Following a final hearty breakfast, bid farewell to your guide and the Scottish Highlands. You can make your way back to Edinburgh or Glasgow by train for your homeward journey.
