Day by Day

Day 1 - Sunday 1st September - Meet in Edinburgh, and head West

Meet your friendly Wilderness Scotland guide this morning, and depart for Glencoe on the West Coast. Perhaps stopping for a short walk on the way, or pop into Glencoe’s visitor centre when you arrive and learn all about the dark and haunting history of the iconic valley. Relax into your accommodation and unwind from your first days travel.

Day 2 - Monday 2nd September - Explore Glencoe

Your guide will meet you at your hotel this morning and walk with you through the stunning scenery of Glencoe. These dramatic mountains and ridges have featured as the backdrop in many films and once you are looking up at these summits it is easy to see why! Today you will explore this famous lost valley with your guide, there are plenty of options to suit every level of energy and challenge. After your hike settle down with a celebratory beverage and listen to local legends and fascinating tales of the dark past of Glencoe told by a local storyteller.

Day 3 - Tuesday 3rd September - Journey to Skye

Travel from Glencoe to the Isle of Skye via the scenic Road to the Isles. Stop at the remarkable Glenfinnan Viaduct, a stunning highlight of the landscape. Continue to the picturesque coastal town of Mallaig to board a ferry across the waters to Skye. At your leisure perhaps enjoy a gentle walk or a trip to Tora Bhaig distillery. Settle into your cozy accommodation and relax for the evening.

Day 4 - Wednesday 4th September - Voyage to St Kilda

Located over 40 miles offshore, visiting the fantastic double World Heritage Site of St Kilda is an adventure that requires a 3-hour boat trip each way. The crossing provides an excellent opportunity to see marine wildlife, and as we approach the islands, we can hear, see and smell the vast seabird colonies. Home to some of the highest sea cliffs in Britain and globally important colonies of gannets, fulmars and puffins – it’s a truly incredible place. Once ashore, enjoy a few hours of exploring with your knowledgeable guide, taking the time to walk around the abandoned village and learning about the island’s haunting history. Wild, evocative and wind-swept, a visit to St. Kilda is sure to be an incredibly memorable experience

Day 5 - Thursday 5th September - Dunvegan Castle & Skye Explorations

Explore the timeless beauty of Skye today with a morning visit to Dunvegan Castle, steeped in history as the seat of Clan MacLeod for over 800 years. Wander through its storied halls, lush gardens, and learn about its rich heritage. In the afternoon, journey to the Talisker Distillery, nestled by the rugged coastline. Discover the art of whisky making amidst stunning views, savoring the distinctive flavors of this renowned Scotch whisky.

Day 6 - Friday 6th September - Fort Augustus

This morning, journey east into the heart of the Highlands to Fort Augustus. Stop at Eilean Donan, one of the most beautiful castles in the country, and explore its storied halls that have stood for centuries. Upon arriving at the legendary shores of Loch Ness, immerse yourself in the timeless beauty of this iconic region. Wander the scenic paths along the Caledonian Canal and River Oich, or venture to higher elevations for breathtaking panoramic views.

Day 7 - Saturday 7th September - Glen Affric

Discover the ancient woodlands and solitude of Glen Affric. There are several options for stunning walks – perhaps circumnavigating Loch Affric or following a route through the ancient forest of the great wood of Caledon to explore the flora and fauna of this wonderful glen. This is an incredibly photogenic place and we will have ample time to try and capture the scene.

Day 8 - Sunday 8th September - Depart toward Edinburgh

Depending on your departure travel plans today, you may wish to head out on a short hike in the local area or visit Urquhart Castle with your guide. Alternatively, explore some local shops before finishing up at Inverness train station, where you can board a train to return to Edinburgh.
