Day 1 - Saturday 3rd August - Welcome to Scotland

Your expert Wilderness Scotland guide, Kirsty, will meet you at the arrivals gate in Glasgow Airport this morning following your arrival from Dublin. Head south towards Dumfries, stopping at the majestic Drumlanrig Castle. As you approach, the grandeur of the 17th-century pink sandstone facade captivates your imagination. Enjoy wandering the grounds and beautiful gardens, and hopefully, with any luck the castle will be reopen for tours and you can pop inside to explore the treasures inside.  Continuing south, you’ll visit the beautiful Threave Garden and Nature Reserve, where you can enjoy wandering through the meticulously maintained formal gardens, where vibrant flower beds and carefully pruned shrubs offer a feast for the eyes. Continue to the rock and walled gardens, showcasing a diverse array of plants and artistic landscaping. Finish up at your cosy accommodation and relax for the evening, soaking in the views.

Day 2 - Sunday 4th August - Dumfries House

After a relaxing start to the morning, head out with Kirsty and make your way to Dumfries House, a stunning 18th century manor house designed by prominent architects John and Robert Adam. It houses an exquisite collection of original Chippendale furniture, one of the most significant in the world. The estate spans over 2,000 acres, featuring beautifully landscaped gardens and woodlands including the Queen Elizabeth Walled Garden. Enjoy a 60 minute private guided tour of the house, learning all about the history and the the Dumfries House collection. Later today, transfer to Crossbasket Castle, your base for the next two nights. This meticulously restored 17th-century castle promises a night of comfort and elegance.

Day 3 - Monday 5th August - Kelvingrove Art Gallery

Set off for Glasgow, a short drive away, and prepare to immerse yourself in the city’s rich cultural heritage. Head to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, where the stunning architecture and impressive collection of over 8,000 works of art and artefacts await. Marvel at masterpieces by artists like Salvador Dalí, as well as exhibits on natural history and Scottish heritage. Following lunch, join a private expert Blue Badge guide who will take you on a walking tour of some of the most significant architectural and historical sites, which could include some of the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, one of Scotland’s most celebrated architects and designers. Perhaps visiting The Lighthouse, Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture, to see some of Mackintosh’s iconic works and learn about his life and influence. Kirsty will meet you following the end of your tour and you can return to Crossbasket Castle and settle in for a relaxing evening.

Day 4 - Tuesday 6th August - Scone Palace and Into Braemar

Head north today and stop off at Scone Palace to explore the grand interiors where Scottish kings were once crowned, marvelling at the opulent rooms filled with fine antiques and artworks. Wander through the expansive grounds, discovering the beautiful gardens, ancient woodlands, and the replica Stone of Scone. Day 5 - Wednesday 7th August - Exploring Balmoral

Balmoral Castle has been the Scottish home of the Royal Family since it was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852. Take some time to explore the grounds, gardens and the exhibitions, which are located in the Castle Ballroom and the Mews. Early this afternoon, enjoy an Art and Afternoon Tea Tour at Fife Arms, where you can explore their incredible collection of art and artefacts, before enjoying a delicious Afternoon Tea in the Drawing Room alongside original masterpieces by Picasso and Peter Breughel the Younger. Take the rest of the afternoon to relax, or you may wish to head out with your guide to explore more of the local countryside.

Day 6 - Thursday 8th August - North to Inverness

Following breakfast, begin your journey north to the capital of the Highlands, Inverness. On the way, stop off for a visit to Cawdor Castle and Gardens. Wander through the castle walls, learning about the history of the fortress, originally starting out as a fortification founded by William the Lion in 1179. The castle boasts three very different gardens, each with their own unique history and appearance. Finish your journey to Inverness and settle into your riverside accommodation for the evening.

Day 7 - Friday 9th August - Exploring Loch Ness

Following breakfast, head to the historic Culloden battlefield, where on 16 April 1746, the final Jacobite Rising came to a brutal head in one of the most harrowing battles in British history. Discover the true story of the 1745 Rising, from both the Jacobite and Government perspectives, in the museum, where weapons and unique artefacts are displayed. A little later today, make the short transfer to the iconic Loch Ness and enjoy a privately chartered boat trip. Cruise the waters of the famous loch with your skipper, and learn about the history of the area, enjoying afternoon tea on board.

Day 8 - Saturday 10th August - Blair Castle & Gardens

Depart Inverness this morning and journey south through the beautiful Cairngorms National Park. Stop for a visit at Blair Castle and Gardens, home to a nine-acre walled garden that has been restored to its original Georgian design. Enjoy wandering through the sculpture trail and admire the mixture of contemporary and 18th-century sculptures throughout the castle gardens and grounds.
Continuing south into Perthshire, you’ll arrive at the renowned Gleneagles Hotel and Spa, where you can relax in luxury for the night in your private suite.

Enjoy a free day today to relax at Gleneagles and make use of their health club and leisure facilities, or perhaps indulge in a spa treatment.
An option for today if you are keen to explore is to visit Doune Castle, a mediaeval stronghold near the village of Doune. Alternatively, you may wish to head towards Falkirk where you can stop to visit the Kelpies installation and Falkirk Wheel. Continuing on, stop off at Stirling Castle for a tour and explore one of the largest and most historically and architecturally important castles in Scotland.

Depart Gleneagles this morning and make your way south to the historic seaside town. Join a privately guided tour of the town and learn all about the history of the area, visiting the University and exploring more of the town itself. Enjoy lunch before Kirsty will transfer you to Edinburgh airport following your tour, in time to check in for your 17:35 flight to London. You can begin your onward journey to London after exploring some of the best Scotland has to offer.

After many years in the hospitality industry, I became a Senior Event Coordinator for a large hotel and leisure resort in Perthshire where I coordinated a huge variety of conferences, weddings and special occasions.  On the year of my 30th birthday, I decided to take some time out of work to chill out for a few months and so I bought myself a little camper van.  In the summer of 2014, me and my trusty Turbo Alick spent over 3 months exploring the stunning landscapes of the North West Coast, Skye and the Outer Hebrides.
