Day by Day

Day 1 - Sunday 25th August - Welcome to Dublin

Arriving in Ireland today, a private transfer will pick you up from the airport and whisk you into the city to your boutique hotel in the city centre.

Head out in the afternoon to enjoy a walking tour with a local private guide through this vibrant capital city, with its mix of 1,000 years of architecture from the mediaeval to Georgian to modern. See the Georgian style Merrion Square, lush St. Stephen’s Green and Fitzwilliam Square, as well as O’Connell Street, the site of the ‘1916 Uprising’ that led to Ireland’s independence in 1922. Your guide is also a historian who will bring the city to life with colourful tales of life in the city in times gone by.

Day 2 - Monday 26th August - The Rock of Cashel

Meeting your guide this morning, you will depart the hustle and bustle of the city for pastures green. First stop is the imposing Rock of Cashel. Set on a dramatic outcrop of limestone in the Golden Vale, the Rock of Cashel, iconic in its historic significance, possesses the most impressive cluster of mediaeval buildings in Ireland. Among the monuments to be found there is a round tower, a high cross, a Romanesque chapel, a Gothic cathedral, an abbey, the Hall of the Vicars Choral and a fifteenth-century Tower House.
Your final destination this evening is the picturesque town of Kenmare in the heart of Kerry. where you will relax and enjoy a delicious locally sourced dinner in the town accompanied by your guide.

Day 3 - Tuesday 27th August - Unique Foraging Experience & Traditional Bread Baking

On the southern shores of the Iveragh peninsula you will meet one of our favourite characters. A fisherman, foraging expert, storyteller and a true Irish gent, John will take you on a wander along the shoreline learning about life on Ireland’s west coast all the while regaling you with tales of characters from the region, from lonely monks to 18th century civil rights activists to mythical heroes.

Back in Kenmare we visit Molly’s Cottage, a time warp to life in Ireland in olden times where families worked the land and lived in traditional stone cottages. Here you will help bake and enjoy sampling traditional Irish soda bread made with real Kerry butter, fresh from the churn.

Day 4 - Wednesday 28th August - Killarney National Park

Killarney National Park is the jewel in Kerry’s crown and right on your doorstep, ready for a full day exploring today. Board a boat with Dux and his canine friend and cruise the tranquil lakes of Killarney with one of the most spectacular backdrops imaginable as you are overlooked by Ireland’s highest mountain peaks.

There are so may experiences on offer including a hike to Torc Waterfall, tour of historical Muckross House and Gardens, time spent browsing the local craft shops in lively Killarney town, people watch with coffee and cake a more challenging afternoon hike with your guide.
Your guide will ensure you get the best out of your day in Killarney.

Day 5 - Thursday 29th August - Cliffs of Moher & Sheep Dog Demo

Leaving Kerry behind you today you will head north into Co Clare. The Burren National Park was designated a UNESCO site due to its unique other-worldly limestone landscape containing a fascinating mix of unusual flora, fauna, geology and ancient archeology alongside the thriving farming communities.
Our first stop today is a visit to see some captivating collies at work demonstrating their herding skills against the backdrop of a 1,000 year old fort on a traditional working farm before we make our way to the coast, to Ireland’s famed Cliffs of Moher. Enjoy the sights that await you at the jaw-dropping Cliffs of Moher, which fall some 700 feet to the crashing Atlantic Ocean below.
This evening check into the boutique hotel in the heart of the Burren where the resident donkeys are waiting to meet you.

Day 6 - Friday 30th August - The Adare Manor Experience

When the 2nd Earl of Dunraven built Adare Manor in 1832 carriages were a familiar part of their everyday life. Today a carriage tour is still the best way to experience all the magic of the Adare Manor Estate the way it was meant to be seen. Settle into a beautifully appointed carriage for a meandering 45 minute exploration of this enchanting 840 acre estate. Take in the sweeping views of the lush Irish countryside, fascinating historic sites, and memorable points of interest along the tour route as your personal guide shares engaging tales of Adare’s long history: the Norman invasions of the 12th century, the rebellions and uprisings which shaped the land and its families, the establishment of the quaint village with its picturesque thatch cottages, and stories of life in the Manor, from the days of the Dunravens up to today. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, there are plenty of activities onsite for you to enjoy including the spa, golf, a cinema, whiskey tasting or try your hand at archery. Day 7 - Saturday 31st August - Exploring The Aran Islands

It’s hard to resist the allure of one of the many islands that dot the Irish coastline and today you and your guide will take to the water and ferry to The Aran Islands. The history of these islands goes back millennia and today Gaelic is still the daily spoken language of the inhabitants. The Aran islands seem to defy their size by all they have to offer: breathtaking scenery, mediaeval castles, cliffs and prehistoric forts are all to be found on this little group of islands.

Inis Mór, the largest of the three islands, is your destination today. The first port of call is a goat farm, here Gabriel, fisherman-come-goat farmer and island native will introduce you to his flock of extraordinarily cute goats. You’ll taste his award-winning cheese, but more importantly, you will leave with his wealth of knowledge on the island’s history, language and culture. We will make sure you don’t miss the incredible prehistoric cliff top fortress at Dun Aenghus as well as some hidden spots along the island’s shore.

For your final guided night together enjoy dinner in Adare Village in a local quaint pub and restaurant.

Day 8 - Sunday 1st September - Galway City Food Tour

Galway is the capital of Ireland’s west. Known as the ‘town of the tribes’ the small centre of cobblestone streets and colourful store fronts is vibrant, fun and cosmopolitan. What better way to spend an afternoon here than a delectable food tour? Stop off in the city and tantalise your taste buds with a delightful journey through Galway’s culinary scene. From artisanal cheeses, craft beers, to handcrafted chocolate, this will be a true feast for the senses.

Later this afternoon, check into the 800 year old Ashford Castle Hotel.  Once owned by the Guinness family, Ashford has a history dating back to the 12th century and has earned its place in Ireland’s history books. Today, Ashford is one of Ireland’s premier hotels offering an unforgettable experience. The next couple of days are a break in driving and activities designed to allow you to relax on site at Ashford Castle, enjoying and absorbing this historic property and recharging after your tour around Ireland.

Day 9 - Monday 2nd September - Historic Ashford Castle

Ashford Castle boasts many outdoor activity pursuits for those wishing to try their hand at being the gentry. There is estate horse riding, woodland walks, boats and bikes, afternoon tea, the library or simply relaxation in the glorious 800 year old castle.

One activity that we do recommend and have included is joining the expert onsite falconer and for a private hawk walk experience at the resident School of Falconry at Ashford. Fly your own Harris hawks under the guidance of your instructor through the magnificent woodlands that surround the castle and meet some of the magnificent birds of prey that call Ashford home.

This evening, we recommend you dine in style in the George V dining room for your final celebration dinner in Ireland.
