Day by Day

Day 1 - Friday 16th August - Welcome to Scotland

Arrive in the stunning city of Edinburgh, you will be met at the airport by your private driver who will take you to your luxurious accommodation. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a private evening tour of Edinburgh’s historic underground, that reveals the hidden stories of the city’s past, enjoying a sip of Scotland’s finest whiskeys.

Day 2 - Saturday 17th August - Exploring Historic Edinburgh

Meet your local expert guide in the foyer of your hotel and head out for a morning spent exploring the beautiful cobblestone streets of the city. Full of history and vibrant culture that reflects its rich heritage, the city will not disappoint. Throughout your walk enjoy sampling the tantalising delights of traditional Scottish cuisine and international flavours. Your guide will leave you at lunchtime to enjoy some time exploring at your own pace. This evening, enjoy a wonderful dinning experience before the spectacular event of music and lights at the iconic Tattoo in Edinburgh Castle.

Day 3 - Sunday 18th August - Spectacular Glencoe

Your main guide will meet you at your hotel this morning and together you head North. Stop to explore the stunning scenery of Glencoe. These dramatic mountains and ridges have featured as the backdrop in many films and once you are looking up at these summits it is easy to see why! Settle down for a delicious lunch and listen to local legends and fascinating tales of the dark past of Glencoe told by a local storyteller. Later, explore this famous valley with your guide, there are plenty of hike options to suit every level of energy and challenge before continuing on to your luxury castle accommodation for the evening.

Day 4 - Monday 19th August - Jacobite Steam Train & Coastal Explorations

Taking a step back in time, you board the iconic Jacobite train to Mallaig. As you traverse the West Highland line on the “Hogwarts Express” you are offered unparalleled views of rugged mountains, sparkling lochs and historic viaducts. Arriving in the quaint fishing village of Mallaig you will be met by your guide and can enjoy fresh seafood or explore its scenic harbour. The drive back to Fort William with your guide is equally captivating, as the road meanders through a landscape that transitions from coastal allure to the untamed grandeur of the Highlands. Admire the landscapes showcased in the Harry Potter films and discover the history of the area on the way back to your castle hotel.

Day 5 - Tuesday 20th August - Arrive on the Isle of Skye

Enjoy fabulous scenery as you make your way to the Isle of Skye today. Travel through steep sided mountains and beautiful glens, perhaps stopping off for a taste of some delicious highland chocolate, before discovering the elegant Eilean Donan Castle. Set out on a private island, surrounded by majestic scenery, this really is a picturesque spot. Delve further into the spectacular Scottish landscape, passing over the graceful arc of the Skye Bridge onto ‘the misty isle’ itself and  continue on to your lovely hotel which enjoys views over the harbour town of Portree.

Day 6 - Wednesday 21st August - Exploring Skye

Today you have a full day to explore some of the special corners of this magical island along with your guide. Meet with a local Ghillie and head off the beaten track to spend the morning searching for wild foods. The taste of your discoveries amongst the dramatic landscapes and fresh sea air will delight the senses. This afternoon, perhaps indulge in a Gin making workshop or visit a working farm to meet the owner and enjoy a little tea and cake.

Day 7 - Thursday 22nd August - Transfer to Inverness, Castles and Lochs

Leaving the Isle of Skye behind, journey on to the capital of the Highlands. Visit the famous Loch Ness, hopping on board your private zodiac for an exhilarating ride a in search of the fabled Nessie. After your zodiac adventure, visit the iconic ruins of Urquhart Castle. Perched on the shores of Loch Ness, the castle offers a glimpse into a bygone era of conflict, clans and legends. As you explore the ramparts and peer through the weathered windows, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views over the Loch, its serene waters shrouded in legendary tales. Later, head to your hotel for a warming drink, with memories of an unforgettable adventure.

Day 8 - Friday 23rd August - Culloden and Whisky tasting

Culloden Battlefield, site of the last battle of the Jacobite rising in 1746 is where you will start the day. Discover the tales of the battlefield that marks the site of the decisive battle that forever altered the course of Highland culture. Later, visit the nearby site of three Bronze Age burial chambers and standing stones known as Clava Cairns. This site is exceptionally well preserved and a great example of prehistoric history in Scotland dating back over 4,000 years. This afternoon, a tour and tasting awaits you at the Glen Ord distillery. This distillery sits in the heart of the Black Isle, built by the famous Scottish Clan Mackenzie in 1838. Here, have the chance to sample the slightly unusual, yet tasteful pairing of Whisky and macaroons.

Day 9 - Saturday 24th August - Perthshire Explorations

Travel south this morning, through the glens and mountains arriving into the region of Perthshire. Visit the charming village of  Blair Atholl to meet your local guide for a private tour of the impressive Blair Castle. The castle has been the home of the Atholl family for over seven centuries. Home to politicians, soldiers, agriculturalists and entrepreneurs, the family history is brought to life against a backdrop of fine 18th century interiors and Scottish baronial architecture. After your tour you guide will take you to your accommodation for the next two nights, the rest of the evening is free to explore the beautiful surroundings.

Day 10 - Sunday 25th August - Highland Safari & Whisky tasting

An extraordinary adventure into the heart of Scotland’s enchanting wilderness awaits you. Encounter remote lochs, and misty glens while looking out for the local wildlife including red deer and golden eagles from the comfort of your private 4×4.
