Start in the bright lights of London and explore before heading to the Cotswolds, a region cherished for its pastoral charm, lush river valleys, rolling green fields and villages of honey-coloured stone. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the landscape is also rich in history – peppered with ancient ruins, tumbling castles and intriguing archaeological sites. After, head into the verdant bounds of the Lake District National Park. Spend time hiking through leafy woodlands and across fields crisscrossed by drystone walls. Visit the home of William Wordsworth and try the famous Grasmere gingerbread.
Crossing the border into Scotland, explore the beautiful Inner Hebridean Islands of Mull and Iona. Enjoy a boat trip out to the Isle of Staffa and weave your way through the Treshnish Isles, spotting guillemots, razorbills, shags, oystercatchers and puffins. Visit the enchanting Isle of Iona (whose monastery was one of the most influential in the British Isles) before ribboning your way to Slye and enjoy hiking with an expert guide.
From Scotland to Ireland, fly from Glasgow to Dublin, landing in a country full of ancient Celtic culture, soaring cliffs, wild landscapes and spirited cities. From the misty Mourne Mountains to the tumbling waterfalls of Glenveagh National Park – explore some of Ireland’s most captivating landscapes. Today, enjoy a boat trip to Rathlin Island. Sail along the coast, discovering hidden coves, snaking inlets, and salt-stung cliffs. Soon, Rathlin Island will come into view. Intertwined with the legend of Robert the Bruce and the spider, it was here that the famous Scottish King rehashed his battle strategy before returning to Scotland. The only inhabited island off the Causeway Coast, Rathlin is home to an incredible number of seabirds. Venture ashore to visit the seabird centre and explore the unique ‘upside down’ lighthouse.

Spend the morning exploring the city of Derry, London Derry – one of Europe’s few remaining walled cities. With a cosmopolitan vibe all year round, this compact, bustling place is perfect to explore on foot, home to brilliant museums, quirky cafes and independent shops. After lunch, travel east into the wilds of Donegal to go hiking in Glenveagh National Park. At its centre, the majestic Glenveagh Castle offers a striking symbol of 19th-century architecture, and a visit to its gothic orangery, Italian terrace and Tuscan garden is not to be missed. As the soft morning mist recedes across the fields, head out into the fresh air to explore the Slieve League Cliffs with your guide. Where the unrelenting power of the sea is a constant, rhythmic roar, these cliffs are some of the highest in Europe, rising dramatically above the crashing waves of the North Atlantic. Bunglass Viewpoint offers the perfect stop for a mindful moment, and there’s also a brilliant hiking trail that follows a little-known ancient pilgrimage path where the remains of a mass rock (an illicit church) still stand. After you walk, stop by Donegal town, where cosy, local pubs serve hearty food and good beer.

Originally from N.Ireland, I like many others had my first taste of the outdoors by joining the local canoe club in my early teens. This was a great place to spend my time and it inspired me to follow a career coaching others in the outdoors. I moved to Scotland in 1989, and have worked in the outdoor industry coaching and guiding a wide range of outdoor activities ever since. Having travelled quite a bit, I had the opportunity to take part in activities in other parts of the world. I am always amazed at how special Scotland is, I spend quite bit of my time in a sea kayak these days and without doubt I would say Scotland is a World class sea kayaking venue. I take great pleasure introducing clients to the joys that Scotland has to offer wether it be on the sea, on the river or in the saddle exploring some remote Scottish glen prior to a stop at a local cake or pie shop (I love cakes!).

Growing up in Sligo, I spent childhood summers exploring the beaches, lakes and landscapes of the west coast of Ireland, which gave me a love and appreciation for the outdoors that has never left me.
I studied Mechanical Engineering, then worked in the energy and emissions reduction industry for ten years in the UK before leaving the corporate world to fully pursue my passion for the outdoors and return to living by the coast and mountains.
I am happiest in, on, or around the water, whatever the weather! I love whitewater kayaking, dunking myself in the sea, attempting to surf, or just wandering on the beach with the sound of the waves crashing beside me. When not immersing myself in the outdoors or adventuring with Bridget the Van, you’ll probably find me cooking or learning how to keep all the vegetables in the polytunnels alive.
