Each day of this private trip will be tailored by your expert guides to match your energy and interests, ensuring a personalised and unforgettable experience.

Highlights

  • Enjoy an exciting day speeding between rarely-visited islands on a privately-chartered zodiac.
  • Soak in the quiet of the wilderness on our favourite peaks away from the crowds.

Day by Day

Day 1 - Monday 16th September - Welcome to the Highlands

Meet your Wilderness guides Susie and Ben in Perth this morning and transfer to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Here, we’ll stop at the tiny churchyard in Balquhidder and visit the grave of Rob Roy MacGregor. There will be time for a short hike to Creag an Tuirc – a great viewpoint and the perfect place to kick off your adventure. The summit is marked with a large cairn and offers incredible views down the length of Loch Voil. A short transfer takes us to Glencoe where we’ll settle into our accommodation for the night.

Day 2 - Tuesday 17th September - Hiking in Glencoe

Some of the best views in Glencoe are from a rarely climbed peak that will be our target today. Following a faint trail, we hike up the flanks of the open hillside. The views open up quickly as we gain height. Reaching the summit, the views are simply sensational, as we gaze directly across the valley at the north face of Buachaille Etive Mor, the most iconic sight in Glencoe. Afterwards, return to your accommodation and settle in for the evening.

Day 3 - Wednesday 18th September - Wilderness & A Waterfall

We start from the village of Kinlochleven where will climb on a good trail through the forest. You’ll soon be able to hear the thunder of falling water – The Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall is impressive falling almost 50 feet. We’ll continue on our hike as the path comes out of the woods and eventually reaches a remote loch, surrounded by mountains and wild moorlands. On the return, we’ll enjoy stunning views down the length of Loch Leven to the Pap of Glencoe.

Overnight: Glencoe | Kingshouse Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 4 - Thursday 19th September - A Martime Adventure

After breakfast, we transfer west to Oban, where we jump on board a privately chartered RIB (zodiac) for a memorable journey on the sea. We won’t take a direct route – instead, we’ll visit some islands along the way, stepping ashore to explore empty beaches and coves. We then speed up Loch Linnhe, keeping an eye out for wildlife such as seals, porpoises or dolphins, before arriving in Loch Leven and transferring into Highland Perthshire to our next hotel.

Overnight: Aberfeldy | Fortingall Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 5 - Friday 20th September - The Fairy Hill of Caledonia

Today, we’ll aim to climb the iconic hill of Schiehallion – the Fairy Hill of Caledonia. An excellent trail snakes up the whaleback mountain to its lofty summit at 1,083m, which rewards us with expansive views across the Highlands. Back at the hotel, enjoy a pint of Schiehallion ale or perhaps a local whisky to celebrate!

Overnight: Aberfeldy | Fortingall Hotel
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 6 - Saturday 21st September - Glen Lyon

Glen Lyon is one of the most beautiful glens in Scotland, flanked by steep sided hills and filled with native woodland. Discuss some options with Susie and Ben this morning and choose a suitable hike for the day – this could be a winding walk along the valley floor, or perhaps a hike to one of the easier summits. Whatever you choose, it’s sure to be another memorable day.

Overnight: Aberfeldy | Fortingall Hotel

Day 7 - Sunday 22nd September - Into Highland Perthshire & Depart

After a relaxed breakfast, we’ll hit the road and head towards a historical library for a tour and a look at the rare books in its diverse collection. After lunch, we’ll transfer up to the beautiful wooded glen of the Hermitage for a walk winding alongside the River Braan with its attractive folly and tumbling waterfalls before transferring back to Perth where the trip will come to an end.

Following my undergraduate degree in Outdoor Leadership, the Lake District became my home. The Cumbrian crags and mountains offer some of the UK’s best climbing. Many years later, my home is in Scotland, where the adventures are truly endless. You’ll find me rock climbing, cycling, and hill running in the summer. When winter arrives, I swap my running shoes for ski boots and rock boots for crampons and ice axes.

I love that my work involves taking people into the mountains to experience adventure and empowering them to take on adventures of their own. It’s a pleasure to be part of Wilderness Scotland and to share and show off the wild landscapes of the Highlands.

Originally from Edinburgh I moved to the West Highlands in 2010 leaving behind a staff nurse post to go back to university. Four years later I had a degree in Adventure Tourism Management (a degree in having fun) and had started working as a guide.

I now spend much of year guiding and the rest working as a technician in theatre and live events. How I got into this work is a whole other story!  Nursing was a career that I am really glad to have experienced however the chance to follow a passion was too great and I am now really happy in everything I do for a living.
