Day by Day

Day 1 - Sunday 31st August - Transfer to Inverness

This afternoon, after your delicious brunch, head to Edinburgh Waverly Train Station to board your train north to Inverness. Sit back and enjoy this scenic journey as you travel through the Cairngorm National Park. On arrival in Inverness, a taxi will take you to your hotel where you can relax before the next stage of your journey begins tomorrow.

This day is unguided – self transfer to Edinburgh Waverly Station

Day 2 - Monday 1st September - Visit Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns

This morning, your guide will meet you at your accommodation. Together, visit Culloden Battlefield and its richly researched and engaging visitor centre. Learn about one of the most harrowing battles in Scottish history and walk across the rough moor where the Jacobites and the Government forces clashed in 1746. Then, step further back in time at Clava Cairns, the site of three Bronze Age burial chambers and standing stones. This site is exceptionally well preserved and a great example of prehistoric history in Scotland dating back over 4,000 years.

After lunch, journey west through an ever-changing landscape of peaks and glistening lochs. Pause to explore the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, perched on its tidal island where three lochs meet. One of Scotland’s most photographed castles, it has stood as a sentinel of the Highlands for centuries. Explore its atmospheric halls and battlements before crossing the bridge to the Isle of Skye, where adventure awaits.

Day 3 - Tuesday 2nd September - Guided Explorations on the Isle of Skye

Today you have a full day to explore some of the special corners of this magical island with your guide. You will be spoilt for choice with fascinating history and dramatic landscape on offer, with unique hiking routes through stark and unusual rock formations and sweeping coast and mountain views to enjoy in almost every direction. This ‘misty isle’ is also home to so many curious stories and legends of fairies and islander culture, your guide will share some of the best hidden gems and personalise the day to your interests.

Day 4 - Wednesday 3rd September - Road to the Isles

This morning, head south where you have the chance to explore Armadale Castle and Gardens before catching the ferry back to the mainland.

This afternoon, you’ll travel along the stunning Road to the Isles. This is frequently listed as one of the most beautiful drives in the world and it is easy to see why. Admire the silver sand beaches of Arisaig and the views back over to Skye and the small isles. Take a stroll on the white sand beaches of Arisaig and listen as your guide shares the tales of the local area as you go, making the landscape come alive with characters and events from the past.

You may wish to stop at the historic the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which you may well recognise from the Harry Potter films. Hear the tales of the Glenfinnan Monument and see if you can spot the Jacobite Steam Train puffing its way over the graceful arches of the viaduct.

Day 5 - Thursday 4th September - Explore Glencoe and Culross

Your main guide will meet you at your hotel this morning and will guide you through the stunning scenery of Glencoe. These dramatic mountains and ridges have featured as the backdrop in many films and once you are looking up at these summits it is easy to see why! Your guide will discuss all the options for hikes this morning – there are many choices where you can get off the beaten track and hear stories about the tragic past of this beautiful area.

After lunch, head on to Culross. Step back in time as you explore the picturesque cobbled streets, learn the history of this once-bustling port and see the favourite filming spots of the popular Outlander Series. At the end of the afternoon, wind up at your final accommodation at the airport. Here, say goodbye to your guide taking a moment to reflect back on the many memories you have made together during your time in Scoctland.
