Catch the train from Pitlochry to Perth this morning and pick up your hire car. From here, enjoy a picturesque drive to the banks of Loch Tay – one of Scotland’s deepest lochs. Enjoy a guided boat trip across the smooth water, exploring the loch’s history, heritage and folklore. As stunning scenery unfurls beyond the bow, learn about the mysterious and beautiful landscape from the local skipper and look out for red deer grazing on the heathery hillsides beyond. Continue into the slate blue mountains of the Cairngorms National Park, making your way to the pretty village of Braemar. Check into the Fife Arms, a wonderfully restored coaching inn now filled with art, opulence and an outstanding whisky collection.

After hot coffee and a hearty breakfast, head out into the whisky hills of Glenlivet Estate to head to the home of Ghillie Basan, an esteemed chef and author of many books, including ‘A Taste of the Highlands.’ In the warmth of her beautiful stone cottage, with views that stretch large and long across the wild, heathery valley, enjoy cooking up a storm as you create a delicious meal inspired by the diverse whiskies of the region. Return to your accommodation and cosy into a comfy sofa with a book, or perhaps get an early night’s rest ahead of tomorrow’s adventure.

After a leisurely morning, embark on a journey north to visit Culloden Battlefield, where you can immerse yourselves in the heavy history of the area. Wander the fields that are seeped in history and pay homage to the past before pulling yourself away and venturing to the Isle of Skye. Along the winding roads, watch as the Highlands envelop you before catching the small white ferry to the island, where you’ll check in to the Three Chimneys – your lovely accommodation for your time spent on this misty isle.

After breakfast, enjoy a beautiful drive down the island’s west coast and an amazing walk along the black sands of Talisker Beach. Later this afternoon, visit Dunvegan Castle – the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland – before returning to your lovely hotel to relax.

Rise to the serene charm of the Isle of Skye and enjoy a filling last breakfast before heading out for the day’s adventure. Pick from various walks, maybe a stunning coastal wander or perhaps a grassier walk, slowly exploring the island at your own pace. After the walk, replenish your energy at afternoon tea with a view of the water before hopping back onto the small white ferry and sailing back to the mainland, where you’ll make the drive into the luscious greenery of Glencoe.

Enjoy a lovely breakfast this morning, looking out onto the rugged, wind-swept landscape. Afterwards, head out to explore Scotland’s most iconic glen. With many great options for walking, from climbing towards cloud-snagged summits to winding your way to a hidden meadow, today will undoubtedly be a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable adventure. As the day fades and light slides down the moor-clad mountains, return to Glencoe House this evening and relax, enjoying a dram of whisky and a delicious meal.

Take the morning to visit the Glencoe Centre and see how the landscape here was shaped by fire and ice before starting the journey back to Edinburgh. On the way, stop at Doune Castle, a mediaeval stronghold which has since been used as a location of film and TV. Stretch your legs as you explore the impressive castle and grounds. Arrive in Edinburgh later this afternoon, drop off your hire car and catch public transport back into the city, where your trip will conclude. Spend your final evening in Scotland in the capital, enjoying a relaxed dinner and watching the world go by.
