Day by Day

Day 1 - Saturday 17th August - Welcome to Scotland

Arrive in Edinburgh and meet your guide, who will be with you throughout your trip. Transfer together into the heart of the city, to stroll the cobbled streets of the Old Town and take in the atmosphere and delights of the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Perhaps engage in the festival’s street performances that catch your eye as you walk the Royal Mile. Enjoy lunch in the city before transferring north into the West Highlands. Pass through captivating landscapes which will become wilder and more dramatic. Have the chance to stop en route, for photo opportunities of the magnificent nature that surrounds you, before reaching your Castle retreat to rest for the evening.

Day 2 - Sunday 18th August - Hike the West Highlands

Your guide will meet you at your hotel this morning to lead you on a hike through the stunning scenery. There are plenty of options to suit every level of energy and challenge, this will be discussed with your guide the night prior. After your hike, settle down and listen to local legends and fascinating tales of the dark past of Glencoe told by a local storyteller.

Day 3 - Monday 19th August - Take to the Water

Today, launch upon the water in open canoes. Your expert guide will ensure you have fun as you learn the basic paddling techniques, while exploring the beautiful and enchanting loch. This afternoon hike the local woodlands with your experienced guide. Learn of the area’s commitment to re-wilding as you immerse yourself in the Scottish natural environment.

Day 4 - Tuesday 20th August - Travel to the Cairngorms

This morning your guide will transfer you through the mountains to reach the highland village of Braemar. Situated in the Cairngorms, this is a quaint village with plenty of character, surrounded by hills and moorlands. Depending on energy levels, enjoy a short hike en route, or simply relax as you journey to your destination. (Approximately 3/3.5 hours drive time.)

Day 5 - Wednesday 21st August - Day of Hiking

Enjoy a full day hiking today, exploring the hills and rivers of the beautiful Deeside area with your expert guide. The day will be tailored to your preference, with lots of options to choose from, the day can be leisurely or challenging to suit the whole family.

Day 6 - Thursday 22nd August - Foraging Experience

Today, travel to a nearby estate to meet a local expert forager. Hike through the forests and moorlands to see what edible goodies you can find and collect,  you will be amazed at how much there is. Learn traditional fire lighting skills and how to cook wild food in a rockoven, maybe even creating something delicious with the ingredients you foraged.

Day 7 - Friday 23rd August - Highland Games and Afternoon Distillery Tour

Learn of the Highland tradition. Visit the Braemar Highland Games Field, the location of the largest Highland Games event in the world. Here the whole family can participate a mini games of your own. Have the chance to compete against one another, in some friendly competition. This day is designed for you, so even the youngest members of the family can be involved. After lunch, enjoy a private tour and tasting at the Royal Lochnagar Distillery, which was issued with a royal warrant by Queen Victoria in 1848. Learn about the history of Scotland’s most famous tipple while also having the chance to indulge in a tasting, for those who are old enough.

Day 8 - Saturday 24th August - Natural Landscapes

This morning, head out with your guide for a stunning hike on one of the beautiful nearby trails. Walk through the ancient Caledonian pine forests, listening for the white-water rush of a river and the bright sing-song call of a blackbird. Whether you fancy a mellow circular walk or a more demanding hike, your guide will be able to suggest the perfect option for you. The rest of the day is free for you to make the most of your final night in the Highlands.

Day 9 - Sunday 25th August - Depart Edinburgh

Your private transfer will meet you at the hotel this morning to travel to Edinburgh airport, taking with you a part of Scotland in your heart, and a longing to return.
