Day by Day

Day 1 - Saturday 24th August - Welcome to Scotland

Your private guide will meet you at Inverness airport and take you on the first of many awe-inspiring drives through the Highlands on your way to the Isle of Skye. On your journey you take several stops, first at Lochcarron Weavers to peruse knitwear, kilts, tweed and see samples of your own family tartan and then to explore Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most iconic and striking sights in all of Scotland. On arrival at your hotel, take some time to relax and settle in, enjoying the beautiful views. After a relaxing walk in the hotel grounds, enjoy a delicious dinner and a good night’s sleep.

Day 2 - Sunday 25th August - Guided Explorations on the Isle of Skye

Today is a chance to explore some of the special corners of this magical island with your guide. You will be spoilt for choice with fascinating history and dramatic landscape on offer. After breakfast, you will  start with a morning walk, taking in some of the islands iconic rock formations and sweeping coast and mountain views in almost every direction. You may even come across some local Highland Cows on your travels. This ‘misty isle’ is also home to so many curious stories and legends of fairies and islander culture, your guide will share some of the best hidden gems and personalise the day to your interests.

In the afternoon, your group has the choice to explore your own unique interests, enjoy a guided tour of Torabhaig whisky distillery or enjoy an afternoon tea and some shopping in the local village of Broadford.

Day 3 - Monday 26th August - Wild Loch Coruisk & The Black Cuillin Mountains

Feeling rested, head north west on the island with your guide, arriving in Elgol – a tiny hamlet scattered along the western cliffs of the Strathaird peninsula. From a small jetty, board your boat and sail over Loch Scavaig into the very heart of the Black Cuillin. As the lovely first mate provides some fascinating history about the surrounding islands, look for sleepy seals lounging on the warm rocks. Upon reaching the shore, leave the boat to explore Loch Coruisk, also known as the Cauldron of the Waters, a deep dark loch that stretches like a shadow below the impressive volcanic peaks.

Day 4 - Tuesday 27th August - Return To The Mainland, 'Road To The Isles'

After breakfast, it will be time to depart the beautiful Isle of Skye by taking a short ferry back to the mainland. You’ll travel along the stunning Road to the Isles with your guide, this is frequently listed as one of the most beautiful drives in the world and it is easy to see why. Admire the silver sand beaches of Arisaig and soak in the views back to Skye and out to the small isles. Pass the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which you may well recognise from the Harry Potter films. Hear the tales of the Glenfinnan Monument and see if you can spot the Jacobite Steam Train puffing its way along the tracks. Later this afternoon, you will arrive at your hotel in Glencoe, settle in by the log fire, enjoy a drink from the bar and rest up.

Day 5 - Wednesday 28th August - Hiking in Glencoe

Enjoy breakfast before meeting your guide and heading out to explore Glencoe. The spectacular valley, carved out centuries ago by glaciers and volcanic eruptions, offers some wild and scenic hiking. One great option is to hike along a narrow rowan-hung gorge until you reach the Lost Valley. This enclosed meadow – high, green, and hidden by precipitous tors, is said to be where the Macdonald clan used to conceal their rustled cattle. Surrounded by jagged peaks that shift in and out of mountain mist, visit the Glencoe Center to learn about the landscape’s haunting history. Your guide can tailor your hiking experience around your interests and energy levels that day.

Day 6 - Thursday 29th August - Adventure to the shores of Loch Ness

Today you will join your guide and visit the iconic ruins of Urquhart Castle. Perched on the shores of Loch Ness, the castle offers a glimpse into a bygone era of conflict, clans and legends. As you explore the ramparts and peer through the weathered windows, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views over Loch Ness, its serene waters shrouded in legendary tales. Your adventure will continue as you take a scenic boat trip across the Loch in search of the fabled Nessie. Return to your hotel for a warming drink, with memories of an unforgettable adventure.

Day 7 - Friday 30th August - Travelling to Perthshire

After a hearty breakfast, enjoy the scenic drive east to the beautiful region of Perthshire. On the way, stop to stretch your legs with a short walk to a stunning viewpoint. Arriving at your final stop on the trip, Fonab Castle, a luxurious and historic hotel. After lunch, you can choose to indulge in the tranquility of the hotels spa treatments amidst breath-taking scenery or perhaps curl up with a book, or take a short walk with your guide to explore the area.

Day 8 - Saturday 31st August - Exploring Highland Perthshire

This morning, you will visit Blair Castle, spanning the Medieval, Georgian, Victorian eras through to present day, the castle encapsulates remarkable periods in Scotland’s history. You can also enjoy a stroll in the castle gardens, featuring a nine-acre walled garden and extensive deer park. In the afternoon, enjoy lunch and browse the shops for any last minute gifts and souvenirs in the beautiful village of Pitlochry. If an afternoon pick me up is in order, you can pop into a local, award-winning chocolate shop which makes the most delicious truffles. Arriving back at your accommodation to indulge in some of the finest Scottish cuisine as your final evening meal.

Day 9 - Sunday 1st September - Depart Edinburgh
