Day 1 - Travel to the Cairngorms National Park

Travel north, perhaps by train, to the enchanting beauty of the Cairngorms National Park. Disembark in the village of Aviemore, where your guide and chaperones will be waiting on the platform. This afternoon, you will visit a nature reserve at nearby Loch Garten. A short walk in the pine forest will be accompanied by birdsong and dappled light. Later, return to Aviemore to check into the accommodation and prepare for dinner.

Day 2 - The Angel's Lochan and Heather Moors

Today we will explore the Rothiemurchus Forest and beyond on a hike to a stunningly located loch. Our route follows a good trail through ancient pine trees and a narrow pass before reaching the lochan, which sparkles green in the sunshine, leading to many myths and local legends as to why that is! If we have the energy, we’ll continue beyond the lochan, breaking out of the forest and onto open heather moors.

Overnight: Aviemore
Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch
Walk Details: 8 km / 5 miles

Day 3 - Coastal Hike and Visit Culloden Battlefield

Head north this morning to visit Culloden Battlefield, where the Jacobite Rebellion led by Bonnie Prince Charlie, came to a bloody end. Learn about one of the most harrowing battles in Scottish history and walk across the rough moor where the Jacobites and the Government fought in 1746.  After lunch, enjoy a beautiful coastal walk, identifying flora and fauna with your knowledgeable guide, before returning to Aviemore.

Day 4 - Hiking in the Cairngorms

Today, enjoy a hike in the beautiful Cairngorms National Park. At over 4500 sq km it is the largest National Park in the UK and with miles of winding rivers, make it Scotland’s most prolific whisky-making region. Led by your guide, we will start from a high trailhead and head out into the foothills which lie below the cliff-bound Northern Corries. It’s a high mountain environment so a real contrast to the previous days. Scotland’s only herd of reindeer roam free in this area, but in case we miss them, we will visit their local paddock after our hike so you can see them up close and learn about how they came to be here. A final night in Aviemore gives us the chance to reflect on a special few days together.
