For hiking enthusiasts, we recommend the Errisbeg hiking trail, which starts right by O’Dowd’s restaurant. It can be quite boggy and becomes difficult to navigate at about 2km, so we recommend that your guide accompany you. The views at the top over Dog’s Bay are phenomenal, and on a good day, you can see the Aran Islands. The total distance is 6km.

Dog’s Bay is arguably one of the most picturesque beaches in Ireland. Located about an 8-minute drive from Roundstone.

We recommend Vaughan’s at the Roundstone House Hotel.

Day 5 - Saturday 31st May - Inis Mor

Renowned throughout the world, the three isolated rocky outcrops of the Aran Islands once held a position of great trading power in ancient Ireland. Today, they are a bastion of traditional Irish language, culture and music. Inis Mór is the largest of the Aran Islands and home to a prehistoric semi-circular stone fort that clings dramatically to the top of a 100-metre drop into the sea. You’ll pay a visit to Gabriel, a fisherman-come-goat farmer and island native. Gabriel will introduce you to his flock of extraordinarily cute goats while regaling his wealth of knowledge on the island’s history, language, and culture. Come away laden with cheese, returning to the mainland just as the sky blushes pink against the blue silhouette of the Connemara mountains.

Your guide will discuss your departure time with you the day before.

Overnight: Roundstone | Within the Village
Room Type: Kelp Cottage

Day 6 - Sunday 1st June - The Wilds of Connemara

This morning it’s a 45-minute drive through the windswept Twelve Bens Mountain Range to Killary, Ireland’s only fjord. From there, walk an abandoned famine route along the southern shoreline of the fjord. After a pit stop at a local café for lunch, pay a visit to a working sheep farm. While you watch the brilliant sheepdogs work the flock, chat to the local farmer about a life spent on the rugged west coast. Before heading back to Roundstone, you visit Kylemore Abbey, a haven of history, beauty, and serenity and home to a Benedictine order of Nuns for the past 100 years. Tonight, we recommend venturing to the small town of Clifden for a meal and some music.

*The full Killary Fjord Coastal Walk or “Famine Walk’ is 16km however you have the option to shorten it if you wish with your guide.

Meet Your Guide

Paul Quinn

Contact Number: +353 (0)87 259 2863

I’ve been playing outside in the mountains all over Ireland for the past 30 years and I’m not stopping anytime soon! Working as a mountain guide is the cherry on top – life is certainly looking after me. Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to trek through high mountains all over the world.

Working and being outdoors in Ireland is what I truly love. I am passionate about sharing my love of Ireland as well as its great adventures, people and culture with others. My hobby is ‘Adventure Racing’ which I do badly but I thoroughly enjoy. I adore being alive and enjoying places and experiences to the max!
