Day by Day

Day 1 - Wednesday 25th June - Welcome to Scotland

On arrival at the airport you will be met by a private driver who will transfer you to your city centre hotel. Depending on your arrival time you can choose to relax at the hotel or head out to start exploring this unique city.

Transfer Approx 45 mins.

Day 2 - Thursday 26th June - Exploring Edinburgh

This morning immerse yourselves in the winding cobbled streets of historic Old Town Edinburgh as you enjoy a private walking tour with an expert local guide. Discover the highlights of this unique capital as you wander up the ‘Royal Mile’ to the mighty ancient fortress which is Edinburgh Castle itself. Walk the ramparts atop castle rock and hear the tales of the One O’Clock gun and the stories of locals of times past.

Your guide will leave you here so that you can spend as much time in the castle as you wish. You then have a free afternoon to continue your explorations at your own pace, pick up souvenirs or relax as you prefer.

Note: Your morning tour will be approx 4 hours but will be kept to a small geographic distance to minimise walking. Local Taxi transfers will be provided if required. Includes entrance to Edinburgh Castle.

Day 3 - Friday 27th June - Meet Your Guide & Head West

Your main guide (who will also act as your driver for your time together) will meet you at your hotel this morning and together you head West, passing through the beautiful Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. This is a beautiful location to stop and take in the views. Your guide will make the landscape come alive as you travel through it. Perhaps stop to pay your respects to the grave of infamous Rob Roy and admire the local clan rallying point. 

Your destination today is the bustling harbour town of Oban, where you will spend the next 2 nights.

Day 4 - Saturday 28th June - Isle of Mull & Duart Castle

A short ferry ride will take you over to the Isle of Mull this morning, where you can start your explorations with a visit to Duart Castle. You will have spotted this impressive structure guarding the Sound Of Mull as your ferry drew closer. Time to walk in the footsteps of your MacLean ancestors and enjoy the scenic views.

Spend the rest of the day exploring the island with your guide. Discover the welcoming brightly coloured buildings of Tobermory and the charmingly  tiny island hamlets. Keeping your eyes open for the ‘flying barn doors’, which is what the locals call the Sea Eagles with their massive wing spans. There are also plenty of other animals and birds to watch for too; seals and dolphins are often spotted in the water and a huge variety of other (smaller) seabirds in the air. A late afternoon ferry will take you back to Oban where your guide will drop you at your hotel.

Day 5 - Sunday 29th June - Transfer To Skye via Glencoe & 'The Road To The Isles'

Today you will enjoy superb views as you drive west along the stunning Road to the Isles, this is frequently listed as one of the most beautiful drives in the world and it is easy to see why. Your guide will share the tales of the local area as you go, making the landscape come alive with characters and history.

You may wish to stop at the historic Glenfinnan Monument, and see if you can spot the famous ‘Harry Potter Train’ puffing its way over the graceful arches of the viaduct. Take a stroll on the white sand beaches of Arisaig and soak in the views of the Small Isles before you carry on. At the small fishing town of Mallaig you board the afternoon ferry for the short trip over the sea to Skye and onwards to your hotel.

Day 6 - Monday 30th June - Exploring Skye

Today you have a full day to explore some of the special corners of this magical island with your guide. You will be spoilt for choice with fascinating history and dramatic landscape on offer. There are stark and unusual rock formations and sweeping coast and mountain views to enjoy in almost every direction.

This ‘misty isle’ is also home to so many curious stories and legends of fairies and islander culture, your guide will share some of the best hidden gems and personalise the day to your interests. You could choose to meet a local artist or maybe visit Dunvegan Castle. This castle is the home of Clan MacLeod and has been continuously occupied by the family for over 800 years. The family proudly look after “Am Bratach Sith”, The Fairy Flag of Dunvegan and the clan banner, which is said to have miraculous powers and ensure victory when unfurled in battle.

Day 7 - Tuesday 1st July - Transfer to Inverness Area via Eilean Donan Castle

Returning to the mainland with your guide this morning, by way of the graceful Skye bridge, it is not long before you see one of the prettiest castles in Scotland. Eilean Donan occupies an island at the confluence of three sea lochs and stands in defiance of the towering peaks surrounding it. Take your time here to explore and enjoy the iconic view before continuing onwards through mountain glens.

Pass the deep secretive waters of Loch Ness, keeping an eye out for the infamous monster, as you head up the Great Glen. One final stop for the afternoon is the atmospheric Culloden Battlefield, the site of the last battle of the Jacobite rising in 1746 with so many stories to tell. Your guide will then take you onwards to a warm welcome at your accommodation in Inverness.

Day 8 - Wednesday 2nd July - Transfer To Edinburgh Airport & Depart

This morning your guide will transfer you south, skirting the edges of the Cairngorms National Park as you head towards Edinburgh Airport to catch your onward travel. Waving farewell for now but taking with you special memories and wonderful stories of your explorations.

Drive Time = Approx 3 to 3.5 hours. So please note that a late afternoon flight will be required.
