Itinerary at a Glance

Day by Day

Day 1 - Wednesday 25th June - Céad míle fáilte

Céad míle fáilte, or one hundred thousand welcomes, to Ireland’s biggest southwest city, Cork! Arriving at the airport, you’ll pick up your rental car and head to your centrally located hotel. Cork is Ireland’s second-largest city, has a vibrant centre and is worth wandering around. Cork has a very rich historical and archaeological heritage, much of it still in evidence today. If you’re looking to spend a peaceful sunny afternoon (Ireland does have them!) visit Fitzgerald Park. This popular park is home to lakes and manicured lawns, lots of sculptures,  and wandering paths, as well as the Cork Public Museum, which makes for a great place to duck inside if the weather turns grey.

Your first stop is on the southern shores, where you will meet one of our favourite characters. A fisherman, foraging expert, storyteller and a true Irish gent, John, will take you on a wander along the shoreline learning about life on Ireland’s west coast all the while regaling you with tales of characters from the region, from lonely monks to 18th century civil rights activists to mythical heroes. Afterwards, we recommend you take a spin out to the nearby Valentia Island, a step back in time. Notes On Weather & Flexibility

Weather – July in Ireland can be a very wide range of weather, and very changeable. Suitable clothing and footwear is essential, as well as a flexible attitude. Plans may have to be changed to accommodate Mother Nature.

Essential Packing List

  • Waterproof jacket with hood
  • Waterproof over-pants
  • Sturdy hiking boots/shoes (sneakers or tennis shoes are not suitable for any hiking in Scotland)
  • Warm layers
  • Hat, sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Smart casual attire for dinners

Tipping Guidelines

We don’t generally recommend a set amount. We would encourage you to ask yourself what you were expecting from your guide and then think about how they have exceeded those expectations. Choose what you think reflects this and you are comfortable with.

For local services such as restaurants again tipping is not expected but if you receive great service then 10-15% of the bill is normal.

Please note that some hotels and restaurants will add a discretionary service charge to your bill.  This is to be paid entirely at your discretion and at your own expense.
