Day by Day

Day 1 - Welcome to Edinburgh

Arrive in the architecturally stunning city of Edinburgh today and settle into your lovely accommodation. Depending on your arrival time, you may wish to head out and explore the winding alleys and cobblestone streets. Wander up the Royal Mile, visit St Giles’ Cathedral, and perhaps spend some time in the National Museum of Scotland, which has a roof terrace providing panoramic views over the city.

Day 2 - The Royal Mile & Edinburgh Castle

Enjoy a self guided day in Edinburgh. The capital is full of history and very accessible on foot. Head up the Royal Mile to the mighty ancient fortress which is Edinburgh Castle, and explore St Margaret’s Chapel, the dungeons, soldiers barracks, and visit the Stone of Destiny and the Scottish Crown Jewels. Make sure to be on the battlements come 1 o’clock so you can enjoy the firing of the gun. Afterwards, wander down the Royal Mile towards Holyrood, strolling around the modern Scottish Parliament Building and through the grassy crags of Arthur’s Seat.

Day 3 - Into the Cairngorms

Meet your Wilderness guide this morning and leave Edinburgh behind as you head north into the slate-blue mountains of the Cairngorms. On your way stop at a Highland estate where you can wander the estate and meet some of the animals. You can then choose to walk or take a landrover through the heather-covered hills to a remote bothy where a luxury picnic lunch will be waiting for you. Afterwards, continue north, watching the rugged hills flatten to golden fields and large, boundless skies. Your lovely accommodation for the next two nights is an elegant Georgian stately home, close to the picturesque Findhorn Bay.

Day 4 - Golf & Cawdor Castle

After breakfast, head out for a round of golf at Cabot Highlands, where the sweeping views over the Moray Firth and expertly designed course provide the perfect ingredients for a relaxing, enjoyable morning. After lunch, join your guide to travel through the gently rolling countryside to Cawdor Castle. Explore its romantic gardens, meander through the castle’s historic rooms, and discover its literary connections to William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. As the day winds down, return to your hotel and relax.

Day 5 - Highland History and Whisky

Travel west to Fort William today, passing through spectacular scenery as you ribbon your way through the northern edge of the Cairngorms National Park. Stop to visit the Highland Folk Museum, a fantastic open-air exhibit that reveals how the Highlanders once lived many years ago. Continue your journey to Dalwhinnie Distillery, Scotland’s highest whisky distillery, for a guided tour and tasting of its rich, smooth single malts. As the mountains grow taller and the landscapes more dramatic, you’ll arrive at your luxurious accommodation, a beautiful 19th-century castle tucked beneath the rugged bulk of Ben Nevis.

Day 6 - Jacobite Express and Golf in Arisaig

Board the Jacobite Express this morning for a lovely train journey. As the steam train chugs through rugged mountains and over the striking Glenfinnan Viaduct, enjoy breathtaking views of lochs, moors, and the distant isles. Arriving in Arisaig, enjoy a leisurely lunch overlooking the sparkling waters of the West Coast. Afterwards, play a round at Arisaig’s charming 9 hole golf course, where each hole is framed by spectacular scenery, from rolling dunes to sweeping sea views. Your guide will return to your castle hotel later this afternoon, where you may like to take a stroll around the beautiful grounds and enjoy a drink before dinner.

Day 7 - Glencoe and Killin

Journey through the dramatic landscapes of Glencoe today, where towering peaks and steep-sided valleys tell stories of ancient clans and volcanic origins. Stop at the Glencoe Visitor Centre to learn more about the area’s rich history and explore the fascinating turf house, and discover the are tragic history. Continue south to the village of Killin, where the cascading Falls of Dochart tumble through the heart of the village. Take a gentle walk along the riverbanks to admire the falls and surrounding scenery before heading to your welcoming accommodation, owned by the Scottish tennis sensation, Andy Murray.

Day 8 - Gleneagles and Afternoon Tea

After a relaxed breakfast, head out for a round of golf on one of the beautiful courses at Gleneagles. Enjoy the challenge of the game and the peaceful surroundings of the estate, which is built around its golfing heritage. Afterwards, take time to relax with afternoon tea, where a selection of sandwiches, scones, and cakes, accompanied by lovely views, make it easy for the afternoon to slip away. Return to your comfortable hotel and enjoy dinner this evening.

Day 9 - Stirling Chapel and Return to Edinburgh

Begin your journey back to Edinburgh today. Visit Stirling Castle in the morning, taking time to explore its architecture and learn about its historical significance. Back in the city this afternoon, enjoy a guided tour of Mary King’s Close, discovering the underground warren of Edinburgh’s hidden streets and learning about its gruesome and eerie history. This evening, celebrate your final night in Scotland with dinner at the Scottish Whisky Experience, where you can enjoy a meal paired with local whiskies.
