The Burren’s rocky alien landscape is said to be the inspiration for Middle Earth in JRR Tolkien’s world-famous Lord of the Rings trilogy – and today as you explore this other-worldly region, it’s easy to see why! You will visit a farm where you’ll enjoy the opportunity to walk through this unique landscape, This tour will also include a walk to a prehistoric stone fort, with a worldly history which will be brought to life by the farm’s local guide and multisensory presentations. Excavations from the site, ranging from Venetian glass and Baltic amber, serve to juxtapose the ancient settlement against its contemporary trading inhabitants.

After breakfast, head to Waverley Train Station; the only station in the world to be named after a novel. As you journey north, you’ll pass through small towns, pastoral landscapes and wild moors before reaching the Cairngorms National Park. On arrival, meet your Wilderness guide for the next stage of your adventure. After settling in at your accommodation, head out for a short but spectacular walk. The Uath Lochans, known locally as the Paw Print Lochans, are a hive of biodiversity. Raised boardwalks wind through reedy marshlands. Look out for a glimpse of the occasional frog and the glittering wings of dragonflies as they dart over the wetlands. Climbing a short way to Farleitter Crag, this small hill offers incredible elevated views of the water, forest and surrounding Cairngorm Mountains. Relax into your accommodation this evening and enjoy your first Highland dinner.

Having traveled and enjoyed adventures in much of the world, for me, there is nowhere more beautiful, dramatic and captivating than my home in the UK. Travel has made me realise just how lucky I am to live in a country with so much history, tradition, scenic beauty, and incredible accessibility.
It is a total pleasure and a great privilege to host and guide visitors to the UK each year. My job is to help them connect with all the wonders we have here so that they may return home as ambassadors for this wonderful country I am lucky enough to call my home.

I fell in love with the outdoors over 25 years ago following a week’s solo excursion walking the West Highland Way, which introduced me to the stunning scenery and landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.
Since then, I have used every opportunity to visit and walk Scotland’s hills, mountains, glens & islands, thus building upon my experience and knowledge, which eventually led me to the dream job as a walking guide – as I aimed to break free from my career in finance.
My walking experiences have taken me to the French & Austrian Alps, The Pyrenees and the wilds of the bush & rainforest in Queensland, Australia, but I would never swap any of them for what can be found in Scotland’s countryside.
