On arrival at Edinburgh Airport you will be met by a private driver who will transfer you to your city centre hotel. Depending on your arrival time you can choose to relax at the hotel or head out to start exploring this unique city.
Overnight: Edinburgh | The Bonham

This morning a private transfer will collect you from your hotel and take you to Edinburgh Airport to catch your self-arranged flight to Kirkwall Orkney.
Suggested flight = LoganAir – Departs EDI at 9:35, Arrives Kirkwall 10:45
On arrival you will be met by your Private Scotland Guide and head to a local cafe for a coffee and a chat about your adventures in the week ahead.
Right after lunch your true Orcadian explorations start as you take to 2 wheels and head out with a local bike guide who will share some of their favourite highlights with you. Immerse yourselves in the history of Maeshowe and marvel at the massive stone circle that is the Ring Of Brodgar. Theories still abound about the purpose of this site, hear all the evidence and decide for yourself if it was a ritual site, a giant astronomical observatory or something completely different.
After the perfect introduction to the islands head back to Kirkwall and get settled into your welcoming accommodation.

Skara Brae is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world, and probably the best known of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Heart of Neolithic Orkney. An early start this morning will ensure that you get a chance to immerse yourself in this fascinating site while it is still quiet. Then hike south along the coastline with your guide along cliffs which are home to a multitude of seabirds and thousands of years of history in the form of archaeological sites. Your destination aim is Stromness, a characterful town of old stone buildings blasted by sea air.

Today you jump on a ferry for a short ride to the island of Hoy. Here you will be met by a taxi which will take you to the crofting township of Rackwick Bay, which is considered one of the most beautiful places in Orkney. Here you can explore these restored traditional dwellings and museum before you hike along the beautiful coastline to see the famous Old Man of Hoy, which is the tallest sea stack in the UK.
Depending on ferry times, there could be the option to instead summit Ward Hill which is the highest point in the whole of Orkney. In the evening you catch the return ferry and return to your hotel in Kirkwall.

Catch the morning ferry back to the mainland today to start your explorations of the Northern coastline of Scotland, maybe stopping into John O’Groats for the iconic photo before heading out to hike.
Dunnet Head is officially the furthest north point of the British mainland, and a nature reserve home to a diverse range of birds including puffins, razorbills, guillemots, fulmars, kittiwakes, shags and cormorants. There is superb cliff top hiking here, or you could head to Ducansby Head with its impressive sea stacks. The local Swilkie whirlpool is where Viking legend would have you believe salt for all the oceans is churned.

Overnight: Lairg | Lundies House

The stark beauty and huge skies of the North Coast will be laid out before you today, but you will have to earn them. This is a tough hike over rough ground and through classic Scottish bog, but once you gain the ridgeline then you can enjoy the views. Summit the ‘Queen of Scottish Mountains’ and enjoy the royal view as you survey the surrounding landscape from its craggy peak.
Note: Today is flexible, and there are many alternative hikes. Your guide will discuss the best option with you to suit the weather, your energy levels and desired challenge for the day!

Overnight: Lairg | Lundies House
Room Type: 2 rooms in main house (Flora & Gwendolyn) & 2 courtyard Studio (6 & 12)
Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
An hour transfer will take you south to Lairg to meet a local bike guide and your waiting bikes. After a short bike fit then head out on a 30 miles exploration, taking you over the challenging Struie Road and then onwards to the reward of a great part of the National Cycle Network. Discover farm cafes and sea views as you head past Dingwall and onto the Black Isle.
At Cromarty bid farewell to your bikes and catch the short ferry over to Nigg before your guide takes you onwards to sample a well earned local dram or two and settle into your unique and whisky themed accommodation.
Ride = Approx 60 miles, flexible with interest and energy levels.
Note: Whisky Distillery Visit could be today OR at the end of D8 as per preference

Today you have a full day of hiking with your qualified hiking guide in the Cairngorm mountains. There are many different options to choose from and your guide will advise you on the best choices based on the weather and what you want to explore. This mountain range boasts 5 out of 6 of the highest peaks in the UK, so you can choose if you want to head up onto the peaks or stay lower down in the romantic Caledonian pine forests and glens.
If the weather allows then the Northern Corries loop is a superb outing with fabulous hiking offering views down in to popular climbing corries. A short ‘side quest’ takes you to the top of Lurchers Crag, allowing you to see over the Lairig Ghru over to Braeriach summit.
Approx Hike = Flexible according to choice, but the Northern Corries is approx 8.5 miles

A private transfer will collect you from your accommodation and take you to Inverness Airport to make your onward connections. Waving farewell for now but taking with you special memories and wonderful stories of your explorations.
