Day by Day

Day 1 - Friday 8th August - Welcome to Scotland

On arrival into Edinburgh Airport you will be met by your main guide who will also be your driver for the next few days and you’ll head out of the city to the towering peaks and tranquility of the Cairngorms National Park.

On the way you can stop off for a leg stretch and breathe in the scent of Pine needles before arriving at your luxurious accommodation in a quaint little village where you will stay for the next two nights.

Day 2 - Saturday 9th August - Day of Exploration

Head out into the hills today for a truly wonderful day out in the countryside.  Perhaps you might like to summit a local munro (mountain over 3000ft) or take a invigorating hike around one of the many local lochs.  Your guide will discuss all of the options with you before you set off so that you make the most out of your time here.

Day 3 - Sunday 10th August - To the. North

Leave the Cairngorms today and head north towards the capital of the Highlands.  On the way, a unique experience awaits. Deep in the heart of the Glenlivet hills lies an Oasis of calm and cookery.  Meet with a food anthropologist who has bought influences from around the world to this small part of Scotland, and enjoy getting hands on with a cookery workshop.  Hear stories of her life and how she has to ski across the fields just to get milk in the winter as you sit on her deck tantalising your tastebuds with the delicious feast.

With no other soul in sight, you can truly relax and unwind for a few hours with just the sound of the local wildlife for company.  When you are ready, you’ll head over the snow roads to Inverness and beyond for the next two nights.

Day 4 - Monday 11th August - Culloden and Clava Cairns

The battle of Culloden is one of the most famous and also most bloody battles in Scottish history.  Head to the emotive landscape of Culloden Moor this morning as you step back in time to imagine what life was like for Bonny Prince Charlie’s men on that fateful April morning in 1746.  Your guide will bring this place to life with stories of the Jacobite Uprising and how the course of Scottish history was forever changed after this battle.

Later on, you can enjoy a walk along one of the many beautiful beaches in this part of Scotland or perhaps head into the hills near your hotel for another hike before heading back to your hotel for the night.

Day 5 - Tuesday 12th August - Mountain Biking in the Nevis Range

Leaving the northern Highlands today you’ll transfer south to the west coast for your final couple of nights in the Scottish countryside,.  On the way you’ll travel along the famous Loch Ness where you can stop off to see if you can spot the elusive monster lurking in the deep.

Your next stop is the famous Nevis Mountain Range where you will enjoy a few hours of riding the mountain bike trails that are a mecca for riders from all over the world.  Practice your skills under the watchful eye of your expert guide and enjoy the wind rushing through your hair as you charge downhill after a strenuous climb.

Later on, watch the countryside change from mountainous peaks to far stretching coastal views as the road weaves it way along the coast to the private island of Eriska where you’ll stay for the next two nights.

Day 6 - Wednesday 13th August - Exploring the West Coast

There are loads of options for today, perhaps head south to board a ferry to Kerrera where you can enjoy a circular hike of the southern part of the island.  The views that you’ll get on this hike are breathtaking and your guide will also point out places of interest and perhaps some of the local wildlife that can be spotted as you walk along.

Another option is to head into the mountain range just north of your hotel to bag another munro or take a walk around one of the remote lochs in this part of the country.  Whatever you decide, you’ll end the day back at your hotel where a local storyteller will meet you to regale you with tales of days gone by and the myths and legends that are woven into the very fabric of life here on the edge of the Atlantic.

Day 7 - Thursday 14th August - Transfer to Edinburgh

It is time to leave the Highlands and Islands and head to the bright lights of the city for your final two nights.

On your way back to Edinburgh, you’ll pass through Loch Lomond where you can stop off for one last leg stretch or perhaps you may wish to enjoy a tour of Stirling Castle, which is one of the most important castles in Scottish history.

Arriving back into the city, your guide will drop you off at your city centre hotel and say goodbye.  With the fringe festival in full swing, you can head out tonight to enjoy some of the festival atmosphere or relax at your hotel and take advantage of the beautiful spa.

Day 8 - Friday 15th August - The Royal Military Tattoo

An expert local guide will meet you at your hotel this morning and you’ll head out to explore the festival as well as parts of the city only known to the locals.  The streets will be buzzing with performers and tourists from all over the world, but your guide will get you off the beaten track and get you under the skin of this incredible festival.

After a day of assault on your senses, you’ll head back to your hotel to get ready for the main event in the city – The Royal Military Tattoo.  Your guide will take you to the castle where you will enjoy a pre show dining experience where you will meet some of the cast and enjoy a preview of what is to come.  One of the hosts will then show you to your seats in the outdoor arena where you will enjoy this incredible performance of music and precision culminating in a fantastic fireworks display.  The perfect way to end your time in Scotland.

Day 9 - Saturday 16th August - Depart

A private transfer will collect you from your accommodation and take you to the airport to make your onward connections. Waving farewell for now but taking with you special memories and wonderful stories of your explorations.
