Day 2 - Monday 8th December - St Andrews - History & Golf

This morning your Host Guide will meet you at your hotel and together you will head north to explore St Andrews and the Kingdom of Fife. This characterful university town is full of history and stories. More recently the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge famously met during their studies here but St Andrews is much better known for being the ‘birthplace of golf’ and you will find references to ‘the great game’ around every corner.

As it is Sunday there is no play on the Old Course and you can enjoy a leisurely walking tour with a local expert guide, hearing some of the tales of this iconic ‘birthplace of golf’. Then immerse yourselves in history of a different kind as you visit the impressive ruins of St Andrews Cathedral, explore the old town streets and admire the remains of the castle with your expert guide.

In the meantime two of your party will Tee off on a fabulous links course on the same coastline as ‘the birthplace of golf’. Enjoy the history and coastal views of a superb round of golf and chat to the local players. This charming coastal course is one of the oldest golf courses in Scotland and offers a warm welcome to its historic 18 holes.

If there is time before returning to Edinburgh you may wish to stop to explore one of the charming and picturesque fishing villages along the Fife Coastal Trail with your host guide. These harbour houses are now popular with artists and writers but the sea still has a heavy influence on everyday life for most people in the local communities. Sampling traditional fish and chips here is highly recommended!

NOTE – St Andrews visit shifted to this day to allow better access to The Old Course.

Day 3 - Tuesday 9th December - Exploring Edinburgh

Discover the highlights of this unique capital city from the Palace of Holyroodhouse all the way up the ‘Royal Mile’ to the mighty ancient fortress which is Edinburgh Castle itself. Walk the ramparts atop castle rock and hear the tales of the One O’Clock gun and the stories of locals of times past.

With your private driver at your disposal, other areas of the city are also open to you and your guides will be happy to discuss the options with you. Perhaps discover the unique skyline from a different viewpoint or take a stroll through the Dean Village and hear about the difference between the tiny areas of this city.

Day 4 - Wednesday 10th December - Whisky & Underground Tales

This morning you head out of the city again, this time to visit a classic Scottish Whisky Distillery. Discover the secrets behind this delightful dram on a private tour, and the adults can all finish with a taste. Toast your adventures with the traditional ‘Slainte Mhath!’, or ‘good health.

After lunch the dark history of Edinburgh is calling you again, and you head underneath the streets of the Old Town. Your private guide will give you a unique insight into the lives of the people who used to live here.

Once your host guide has seen you safely to the surface again they will depart, leaving you to enjoy your last evening in Edinburgh. Have fun sharing all your stories this evening.
