This morning your Host Guide will meet you at your hotel and together you will head north to explore St Andrews and the Kingdom of Fife. This characterful university town is full of history and stories. More recently the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge famously met during their studies here but St Andrews is much better known for being the ‘birthplace of golf’ and you will find references to ‘the great game’ around every corner.
As it is Sunday there is no play on the Old Course and you can enjoy a leisurely walking tour with a local expert guide, hearing some of the tales of this iconic ‘birthplace of golf’. Then immerse yourselves in history of a different kind as you visit the impressive ruins of St Andrews Cathedral, explore the old town streets and admire the remains of the castle with your expert guide.
In the meantime two of your party will Tee off on a fabulous links course on the same coastline as ‘the birthplace of golf’. Enjoy the history and coastal views of a superb round of golf and chat to the local players. This charming coastal course is one of the oldest golf courses in Scotland and offers a warm welcome to its historic 18 holes.
If there is time before returning to Edinburgh you may wish to stop to explore one of the charming and picturesque fishing villages along the Fife Coastal Trail with your host guide. These harbour houses are now popular with artists and writers but the sea still has a heavy influence on everyday life for most people in the local communities. Sampling traditional fish and chips here is highly recommended!
NOTE – St Andrews visit shifted to this day to allow better access to The Old Course.
