The Manthei Family's Irish Adventure

Tuesday 18th March – Tuesday 25th March 2025

Duration: 8 Days / 7 Nights

Overview

Picturesque coastal towns and villages, green pastoral fields, soaring cliffs, wild barren landscapes, the crash of the ocean, the laugh of a local. Ireland is romantic, and authentic, a home away from home where both old and modern seem to cohabit seamlessly on a small island in the middle of the sea. Packed with history and tradition your days are spent exploring the island of Ireland’s famous and off-the-beaten-track sites of natural, cultural and political interest. A world-renowned food scene means your evenings are spent dining in style and with the promise of a pub just around the corner, music and laughter are never far away. Your trip to Ireland will surprise and delight you but the people of Ireland will stay with you, long after your journey has taken you home.

Next, we journey to the historical fishing town of Kinsale. Famous as the gourmet capital of Ireland, this colourful town is brimming with activity from art galleries to elegant yachts. Our accommodation is in a central location overlooking the sea. This evening, we have a unique introduction to the town via a ghost tour led by local actors. Here we meet a local marine biologist and forager who will lead us on a walk to learn about wild seaweeds, shellfish and local plants. Discuss the ways in which these things can be used for food, beauty and health purposes before enjoying a gourmet picnic with some wild food along the coast. Our next stop is a hike to the 17th century-star-shaped Charles Fort, which has survived some of the most momentous events in Irish history.

Our guide will provide guidance to everyone and set the standard of the trip to best suit the family. Weather permitting, we will all enjoy a picnic on the seashore. Day 7 - Monday 24th March - The Skellig Islands & Distillery Tours

The Skelligs are two jagged rock pinnacles rising above battering Atlantic waves. It was on the UNESCO site Skellig Michael that the monks of yesteryears once lived and prayed in stone beehive huts which still cling to the island’s rocky slopes. Today your skipper will transport you out for a 3-hour landing on the big island, where you can follow in the footsteps of these 7th-century Irish monks to their dramatic island retreat. The small Skellig is equally renowned as a home to 27,000 pairs of gannets, the second-largest colony in the world. The islands have famously been used as a filming location for the 2015 and 2017 Star Wars movies. The next stop is the Skellig Six 18 Distillery where we meet a local storyteller and discover the science and art of crafting Irish Whiskey, all while learning the history and mythology of this ancient land.
