Located just three miles above the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District National Park, Gilpin is a stylish, 5-star country house hotel. It offers guests an elegant yet relaxed hideaway from which to explore the beauty of this iconic region of Northern England.

The family-owned and run hotel is set in 21 acres and consists of the main country house, two neighbouring restaurants offering modern British and Asian cuisine and dotted around the gardens a number of up-market spa lodges and suites each with their own hot tub and spa facilities. The alpacas and llamas that graze in the hotel garden are a real delight!

On a separate 100 acre estate, one mile down the road, the family also offer a private six-bedroom Lakehouse that comes fully staffed and complete with its own indoor swimming pool, hot tub and sauna. All in all, guests will want for nothing while staying in either property and are sure to leave on a high.

Guided Hiking in the Fells

The Lake District is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Join your private adventure guide for a tailored day accessing some of the areas natural hidden gems on foot. After a short transfer from the hotel, enjoy a guided hike in the famous “fells” or mountains of the Lake District perhaps making use of the traditional steamboats to journey to and from the trailheads.

Private Cookery Class

Cumbria has a rich culinary heritage with historic ties to the spice trade and is known today for favourites such as Cumbrian sausage, Grasmere gingerbread and perhaps most beloved of all, sticky toffee pudding. Explore the culinary delights of the region with a private cookery lesson in the heart of the scenic Lake District National Park. A visit to the historic Grasmere Gingerbread Shop comes highly recommend and makes for a tasty end to the days cooking experience.

Literary Adventure

Meet your guide and local expert and visit the former homes of renowned literary figures William Wordsworth’s, Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin followed by a relaxed afternoon’s steamboat ride and lunch on Lake Windermere as you soak up the areas natural beauty.
