Day by Day

Day 1 - Arrive in Cardiff & Raglan Castle

Meet your knowledgeable guide at Cardiff Airport this morning and ribbon your way out of the city and into the countryside. Your first stop today is Raglan Castle, an impressive fortress that strikes an unmistakable silhouette against the sky. Enjoy a private tour and learn more about the castle’s rich history as you explore the flared machicolations, the pitched stone court, and the grand staircase. Afterwards, head to the first accommodation of your trip, a beautiful Grade 2-listed Welsh farmhouse nestled amidst the rolling hills.

Day 2 - Volunteering in the Brecon Beacons

After breakfast, head out for a day of volunteering at Newport Wetlands Nature Reserve. Join conservation efforts alongside the dedicated staff, enjoying a hands-on experience that may involve habitat restoration, wildlife monitoring, or other initiatives that contribute to the reserve’s important biodiversity. Learn more about the flora and fauna from your fellow team members and enjoy a lovely lunch. This afternoon, head back to your cosy Welsh retreat for a delicious, well-earned dinner.

Day 3 - Donkey Agility and Afternoon Tea

Head out this morning into the Brecon Beacons for a relaxed day filled with many funny, memorable moments. Begin with a masterclass in mini-donkey agility, observing how your own body language affects these sweet donkeys and learning more about their behaviour. After a cosy cafe lunch, head out for a scenic walk with your guide, returning for a unique afternoon tea experience accompanied by some snuffling, friendly pigs. This evening, spend a night under the stars in your own geodome, which affords beautiful, peaceful views. After dinner, snuggle up in front of the fire, toasting marshmallows and looking up at a sky full of stars.

Day 4 - Sea Kayaking and Foraging

After breakfast, set out for a day of sea-kayaking and coastal foraging with an expert guide. From a sheltered bay, paddle out into the gentle swell, enjoying the smell and sound of the sea. Staying close to the shore, floating in and out of turquoise inlets, identify and sustainably gather wild food. Spot hermit crabs and sea urchins, dolphins and damsel flies, learning more about the flora and fauna of the coast. After a salty, sunshine-filled morning, come ashore to a makeshift beach kitchen and cook up your freshly foraged finds. As the afternoon softens into evening, enjoy a bonfire on the sand, playing games and sipping hot chocolate before returning to your cosy camp.

Day 5 - Abergavenny & Sugar Loaf

This morning, head to the charming town of Abergavenny, tucked in the eastern flanks of the Brecon Beacons. Check into the luxurious Angel Hotel, taking some time to settle in before setting out for a hike to the summit of Sugar Loaf, a fine, flat-topped hill which gives panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. After returning to town, enjoy a private workshop with a local Welsh artist. In a bright, airy studio, try your hand at sculpting, pottery, or painting. Relax and have fun as you get creative. Enjoy a delicious dinner back at your hotel this evening before turning in for a good night’s sleep.

Day 6 - Eisteddfod Festival

Hop in with your guide today and wind your way to Eisteddfod Festival, an incredible celebration of Welsh arts, language and culture. Showcasing a fantastic array of music, literature, art, and much more besides, immerse yourself in the lively, friendly atmosphere. After watching an eclectic range of performances, make sure to visit the huge street food area showcasing the best of Welsh produce. An immersive and memorable experience; it’s great having your guide by your side to navigate the day’s excitement. As dusk begins to fall, return to your hotel and wind down with a mellow evening.

Day 7 - Welsh Mining and the Royal Mint

After breakfast, delve deep into the heart of Wales’s industrial heritage with a visit to the Welsh Mining Experience. In the company of a private tour guide, descend into the underground tunnels, hearing fascinating stories about the miners who once toiled here. Emerging from the depths, enjoy lunch before travelling to the Royal Mint to discover the unexpected wonder of coin production. Witnessing history in the making, learn about the artistry and precision behind each minted coin. With some free time factored in this afternoon, explore the quaint streets of Abergavenny or head out for a beautiful walk with your guide.

Day 8 - Cardiff Castle and Depart

After a busy, interesting morning, head to one of the city’s hidden gems for lunch. This afternoon, your guide will transfer you to Bristol Airport to catch your flight home. Arrive with plenty of time to sail through security, arriving at your gate relaxed and ready for your onward journey.
